Music producer @merciermusic used to play Jazz piano and likes to combine these elements with classic Techno/Funk and Disco sounds. The artists gives away two tracks – “Soap” and “Girl” – and talked to us about the production and impact of the songs.

trndmsk: Where did you get the idea to produce the tracks?

MERCIER: Concerning “Soap”: all it took was a hot bath, dimmed lights and soap to have a good evening. I was inspired by the movie “Superfly” and wanted to convey this mood musically. Mixing the different Rhodes melodies turned out to be the key element of the calm and yet motivating musical tub. And on “Girl”: virtual, analogue or real– everybody knows the feeling of having to look at a person or a picture of the person again and again, wondering who the person belongs to. That feeling is most powerful at the end of a long night. I tried to depict this naive late-night affection.

trndmsk: Woher kamen deine Einfälle zu den beiden Tracks? 

MERCIER: Bei "Soap": Eine heiße Wanne, gedimmtes Licht und Seife - das genügt oft, um einen schönen Abend zu haben. Inspiriert vom Film "Superfly" will "Soap" diese Stimmung musikalisch übersetzen. Dabei ist das einander Verweben der verschiedenen Rhodes- Melodien Kern der ruhigen, aber trotzdem anregenden musikalischen Wanne. Zu "Girl": Sei es virtuell, analog oder real: Jeder kennt das Gefühl, eine Person oder ein Bild von ihr immer wieder ansehen zu müssen und sich zu fragen, zu wem sie gehört. Besonders eindringlich passiert das am Ende ein langen Nacht. Der Track versucht genau diese spätabendliche, naive Zuneigung darzustellen.

Next up we have the wonderful new winter warmer from La Belle Records with El Buho's gorgeous remix of Akkan's 'Kai'. 
The Parisian, El Buho takes it down a notch from the hi octane psychedelia of the original to deliver a winter warmer which soothes those January blues and ignites the soul. A slow motion take on the original which could quite easily accompany a balearic sunset complete with waves and pads and the subtle hint of acid.
