Betsy Enzensberger sculpts works that create a visceral longing and remembrance of the most nostalgic delights from childhood. The artist uses the familiarity of those sweet treats to help us remember the simplicity, value and culture of desserts so often associated with positivity and joy.

Enzensberger was born and raised in New York. She graduated from Tulane University and is now a Los Angeles-based artist with a studio in Mar Vista. She has shown with galleries domestically in Los Angeles, Miami, Des Moines, Dallas and New York, and internationally in Hong Kong, London, Stockholm, Hamburg and Byron Bay, Australia. You can find her sculptures in multiple public and private art collections.

Betsy Enzensberger has become quite well known for her realistic, larger-than-life sculptures of dripping, frozen treats. Resin looks like candy. It appears delicious and sweet. The shiny exterior has a wet, melting quality. Her Tragically Sweet series plays with the desires of everyone’s inner child. The lure of sweet, sticky popsicles artificially instills intense longing. The colorful confections practically beg to be rescued and consumed.

Let us start with the basics: 
Non-fungible token (NFT) is a unit of data stored on a digital ledger, called a blockchain, that certifies a digital asset to be unique and therefore not interchangeable.[1] NFTs can be used to represent items such as photos, videos, audio and other types of digital files. Access to any copy of the original file, however, is not restricted to the buyer of the NFT. While copies of these digital items are available for anyone to obtain, NFTs are tracked on blockchains to provide the owner with a proof of ownership that is separate from copyright.

In 2021 there has been increased interest in using NFTs. Blockchains like Ethereum, Flow, and Tezos have their own standards when it comes to supporting NFTs, but each works to ensure that the digital item represented is authentically one-of-a-kind. NFTs are now being used to commodify digital assets in art, music, sports, and other popular entertainment. Most NFTs are part of the Ethereum blockchain, however other blockchains can implement their own versions of NFTs. 

The NFT market value tripled in 2020, reaching more than $250 million.[3] The rise of NFT transactions has also led to increased environmental criticism. The computation-heavy processes associated with proof-of-work blockchains, the type primarily used for NFTs, require high energy inputs that are contributing to global warming. “Carter (born 1986, Dallas, Texas) is a transdisciplinary artist with a BFA from Stanford University and an MFA from Southern Methodist University. His work is presented as videos, publications, installations, and performances to encompass multi-sensorial and layered circumstances encountered by the artist. Personal interactions, media bombardment, observed and lived experiences, and material excess/waste influence his work towards a complex revolutionary promise. These are ecologically centered works often heavily linked to the material history of currency in how it relates to the histories of marginalized people. Carter is of Black and Native American heritage and views his work as a continuation of the survival and storytelling practices of these cultures. More broadly, he is interested in how these practices have analogies across cultures worldwide. Stories of origins, the afterlife, superhuman beings, and of love and tragedy are the most compelling for him. Carter creates work dealing with what these stories mean in an often violent and oppressive context and the power they have toward influencing revolutionary momentum.”

Ashley M. Patton is a PhD candidate in the department of Art History and holds a minor in Early Modern Studies. Her research interests include early modern Italian sculpture, gender, religion, and materiality. Her dissertation project, titled "Tangible Women: Marble Sculptures of Female Saints in Seventeenth-Century Rome," explores the construction of early modern gender in post-Tridentine Rome by examining how sculptors employed different typologies of white marble sculpture in sacred spaces to present archetypal, yet largely inimitable models of the early modern, ideal Christian woman. She is also interested in the global impact of early modern Catholicism, including the trans-Atlantic relationships between Italy and the Americas in the seventeenth century.

Ashley is currently the Joseph F. McCrindle Foundation Curatorial Intern in the department of Sculpture and Decorative Arts at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. Prior to her doctoral studies, she worked at the J. Paul Getty Museum as a Graduate Intern and the Getty Research Institute as a Research Assistant. She has also contributed to multiple museum exhibitions, including “Turkish Rugs on Tudor Walls: 16th Century Trade between England and the Islamic World” at the Minneapolis Institute of Art, and “Albrecht Dürer: Master of the Black Line” at the Huntington Library.

"I was born in Palm Springs, California a while ago and raised in San Diego. I got my MFA at Rutgers University I always felt that I was meant to make Art, but wasnt until the last 2 years that I dedicated full time to Art. I paint on average 12 hours a day, about 330 days a year, and being in the studio so much is bliss.
I have always been drawn to the pool in my art. Metaphorically, its filled with water, and so are we - Body fluids and cleanliness were a jumping of point for this current series. Those who are inside the pool and those who are outside and the different viewpoints and the views are often distorted ones - just like the conservative views of the gay community, and vice versa. I love distortion and so it is a frequent part of my work and I enjoy pushing the abstract shapes that occur in water environments. Pool cleaners hum around working to make the water crystal clear like Prep and meds do within our veins. The pool is another world that is part of the world around it - just like the gay community is an integral part of the overall society. The water in the pool and us has been shared by every other living being since the water developed here - there is a history to it."
