LALA(@lala.l3), founder of CC:Chances in Chaos and co-founder of multidisciplinary studio “Fa777e”. ‘CC’ is a Bangkok based music platform which has initiated events and interactive installations while researching the depths of the South-East Asian underground scene. During the pandemic years I am the host of a monthly residency show on Hong Kong Community Radio and have also directed several collaborative projects alongside Bedouin Records.


For this mix LALA chose to remake the soundtrack of millenium Thai cult horror film “Pop Weed Sayong/Body jumper(2001)”. Pop’s an unbeknownst Thai ancient bloodthirsty ghost. Pop possesses one of the girls, Ger, Pop then uses Ger's beauty to lure victims to eat their liver! There is a scene of Ger dancing on top of the car before she shapeshifts and kills a man. That scene is the main inspiration behind this mix, the mix starts with nostalgic cassette insert sounds and then goes on an extreme ride of nonstop hard trance/techno bangers until the end.

Raised in Los Angeles but based in Brooklyn since 2015, Akua has spent the past five years redefining and cultivating a sound within techno that has assuredly become her own. As one of the many talented DJs that makes up the Discwoman roster, her passion for research and recontextualization in the realm of techno, has been a driving force in packing out dancefloors over 2019 - a year which took her across the globe more than ever. We caught with Akua to discuss the whirlwind and transformative year that was her 2019, being captivated by the wild energy of New York during her first summer in the city, playing mainstage at this year's Sustain-Release, and how she first fondly connected with the fast-paced, adventurous mixing style of early Jeff Mills, Colin Dale and Dave Angel. As our first mix of 2020, Truancy Volume 256 is Akua flowing at her most natural, contorting through a range of influences as she picks out cuts from Chicago and Detroit visionaries. Scan 7, Blake Blaxter, Mike Dearborn, Robert Armani, DJ Rush and Paul Johnson are all well represented here, and her recognised approach of pairing timeless classics with today's most contemporary techno producers is packaged up with her distinct toughness and trademark energy.

GUAN, @https://soundcloud.com/boyang-guan formerly known as Guan Boyang, is an electronic music producer and Audio-Visual artist who grew up in Hangzhou. He is one of the founders of Pioneer Electronic Music Label FunctionLab. He has many titles, such as "Electronic Monk", "Punk Renegade", and "Electronic Hacker”. Unlike most professional music producers, GUAN graduated from the China Academy of Art and became a musician through Sound Art. His non-technical background allows him to create from a unique perspective. His style changes constantly, from the early IDM to Industrial Techno to the popular Deconstructed Club, and finally settling in IDM again. At the same time, GUAN is also a technology nerd. He is keen on using a variety of non-standard methods to make music, hack software and hardware, and has produced many auxiliary tools with Max / Msp for creating and live performing. GUAN is enthusiastic about mutant creatures in the science fiction world. He often uses this as a way to discuss network society and intelligence, and calls his Live sets Virtual-Biological Industry. His self-made mask has become a major symbol of him.

As Gabber Modus Operandi, vocalist Ican Harem and DJ Kasimyn have spent the past couple of years raising hell across their native Bali and beyond. The duo connected over their shared love of disparate musics, including metal, grindcore and noise from the local punk scene, regional sounds like dangdut, koplo and gamelan plus footwork, happy hardcore and experimental styles – though they’ll tell you they don’t differentiate genres so distinctly. These influences all seeped into the two albums they have under their belt quite naturally, and the group took the sounds of 2018’s Puxxximaxxx and 2019 follow-up HOXXXYA to the global circuit last year. As a live act, they thrive: Kasimyn handles deck duties while Ican Harem’s MCing goes beyond rapped hooks to involve exhilarating screeches and guttural bellows, all the while brandishing chains and bringing a crucial sense of physicality to the stage. The pair deliver a seismic, hour-long barrage of a mix for Truancy Volume 262, only letting up to leave you properly winded.

CcC was born in Lagos, Nigeria and grew up in Duisburg, Germany before moving to his current home of Berlin. The first mix in the series is a power hour of raw, pacey beats of various styles blended together with finesse. Catu Diosis is up next with an hour of upbeat Ugandan music from kuduro and afro house to acholi. Catu Diosis is a Kampala based DJ and member of the Nyege Nyege collective and is currently based in Cologne. While on tour in Europe in March Uganda introduced travel restrictions in and out of the country but this very talented individual (who not only DJ's but also produces and is a professional dancer) has taken it in her stride and is doing a one year internship for Migrafrica in Germany while also running a DJ workshop locally called Dope Gal Africa to encourage Black and African women, a demographic who are currently under represented in the DJ world, to learn the craft. Massive thanks to Catu for sending us this wild mix.

Missing Tapes 003 : Catu Diosis

Next up in the mix series is multifaceted artist Astrid Gnosis. Astrid was the last DJ to play at our party at La Cheetah Club, Glasgow pre lockdown and had quite the effect on the crowd who basically ripped the booth apart while dancing so hard. The Valencian has great affection for Scotland and Scottish comedian Limmy in particular who's responsible for the vocal sample 'Gnosis' that features throughout the mix. Expect pure hardcore power!

Missing Tapes 005 sees Jasmine Infiniti bring her wild and intense style to the mix series. Jasmine was born in the Bronx, New York and grew up in the ballroom scene. Her DJ roots lay in Oakland, California where she and friends started the party and now label 'New World Dysorder' that centres trans creatives, performers, and musicians.
