Wistful Skies

As I sit and watch you

I just can’t believe my eyes

Your softest whisper

Rings like thunder in the spans of these wistful skies

These fleeting moments
(Just a moment baby)
Hover then pass by like midge flies

In the swampy vestiges of latent memory
(I remember baby)
Along the beaten path beneath these cloistered, wistful skies
(Wistful skies)

I understood it well enough, so I thought

But perhaps not enough to give rise
(I couldn’t give rise)
For when you spoke of moving on
(Moving on now baby)
I sought peace beneath wistful skies
(These wistful skies)

The line of progress is dipping low
(Dipping low now baby)
What was once known in spades one can’t now surmise
(No, they can’t surmise)
The lush forests are shrivelling and will someday die
(They will die now baby)
I best be finding refuge before the deluge of these wistful skies

Crippled thought is a lame companion
(No companion of mine)
Drifting from shore and ready to capsize
(They will capsize baby)
Nagging relentlessly with its fragments of pictures
(All the pictures baby)
In the fogged recollections of my wistful skies
(The wistful skies)

There’s a commandment behind a stone
(See the commandment)
That everyone challenges yet still abides
(They abide now baby)
The tree of life provides endless bounty
(Endless bounty)
To the sheep of existence grazing under wistful skies
(Under wistful skies)
