House Music Mixsets

Solid Steel (18th October) This week's first hour is mixed and compiled by Tom Middleton with Richie Rundle & Joe Muggs, giving us The Sound Of The Cosmos. SOTC as a living movement began in earnest with a 1000-capacity tent at the Big Chill in 2011, where the legendary Tom Middleton hooked up with music journalist Joe Muggs and West Country acid house veteran Richie Rundle to put together a lineup that connected the new bass generation with the kind of celestial exploration that Tom has indulged with for over two decades now. This developed into more gigs and now a label which they showcase in this mix with music from Primitive Eskimo, Blacksmif, Sapience and Silkie, Distal & Mite from the forthcoming EP. This sits alongside a stellar cast including Vangelis, Pearson Sound, Moody Boyz and John Barry for a truly cosmic mix.

This month’s show was a wfh situation whilst I shook off a cold, but there was an extended 40min guest mix from Katerina which more than made up for it!

She’s a Finnish-Bulgarian DJ and producer putting out bangers on labels like Running Back and Hivern Discs. Her latest release ‘Time Machine’ has been floating around my head for weeks now, and her mix is a beaut.

I had picked out some tracks for an end of summer party I played, so my mix is full of classics from Todd Terje, Gerd Janson, and Everything But The Girl.

Justin Johnson was always one of those names that just rolled off the tongue. For over 30 years, Justin has been consistently making us dance through his love of house, breaks, tech-house and beyond. This music was so much of the fabric of our youth, the parties we attended , the events we created and the dance spaces we occupied . Those days were the best of times, and yet here we are, STILL celebrating our musical heroes. Still pushing things forward.  Still playing. Still dancing. Still creating. 

We are very excited to share this latest Mix-Ins with you. This  one hour plus mix is filled with vivacious and upbeat energy, showing some love for the disco dollies, and  will give you a sample of a few things on the horizon for Justin. In addition to being a DJ and Promoter, Menno Overvliet is an up and coming producer from The Netherlands. His influences include artists from the early techno era like Jeff Mills and the Belleville Three. His first production with Tommy Largo was released on Robsoul with an EP titled 'Raw Steel.' Their track 'Pass It Around' has already been making waves for several months with its delightful sampling from the original B.T. Express song 'Peace Pipe.'
Menno recruited Tommy to become a resident DJ for Amsterdam's Most Wanted radio station in 2012. The formation of this double Dutch duo has proved to be a solid one, with releases coming out on 1200 Traxx and Deepjacking Recordings.
