Finally back after a several-week hiatus due to my move. Definitely some hard losses these past weeks, with absolute legends Pharoah Sanders and Ramsey Lewis passing away. Ramsey Lewis's records were some of the first jazz and funk records I purchased, and I highly recommend his catalog - it's still pretty affordable, and just as beautiful and funky as many of the "rare" and pricey records from other artists. Pharoah Sanders' records are getting a bit more pricey these days, but most are still attainable - and there are some good represses out there. Absolutely beautiful music. Rest in Power to both these legends, I'm eternally grateful for what they brought to all of us.

I tried to intersperse some interview clips of each of them within this mix, which I did live on Twitch a few days ago.

An avid crate-digger, Bristol-based producer and artist Slowe naturally takes inspiration from a plethora of genres, with her DIY approach reminiscent of lo-fi beat making - delicately collaging session recordings together, and repurposing techniques akin to those of J Dilla and Madlib. The result is both nostalgic and fiercely contemporary, with sparkling Rhodes, vintage drum lines, and ethereal vocals. This special Dilla Day mix pays tribute to the producer, drummer, rapper and songwriter with a selection of Slowe’s favourite tracks; "I wanted to put together this mix in honour of one of my biggest inspirations. " I kept this one a bit peppery, some forthcoming bits from Wu15 on Eglo, a Tenderlonious classic, the yoga master Twit One and of course some excerpts from Ross Kemp on gangs when he visited Peckham. I went for a bit of a vocal narrative so you'll hear little snippets of conversation pop in and out, there's some ancient Chinese musical reworks, Earl Jeffers and ended with some massive inspirations in Larry Heard and Kaidi Tatham.
