Excited to bring you this mix from SOS Music boss, Dublab host and overall supremely badass selector TOTTIE. TOTTIE swept into Los Angeles with the express purpose of making a mark within the space of dance music culture, and we can say she's done just that. With TOTTIE it seems instinctual; as a natural reflex, to live and breathe the sounds that she loves. Her label SOS Music (a !K7 imprint) co-founded in 2020 alongside Maddy Maia, is explicitly committed to amplifying the emerging female, non-binary and gender minority talent from across the globe. 

TOTTIE’S musical palette crosses a mix of genres that tap roots in the fundamentals of house, breaks and techno all the way through to UKG.  Having lived in London, Barcelona, and now Los Angeles, TOTTIE has impressively embodied a global movement in the purity of her intention and the honesty of her commitment to the music.

Stephan Laubner/STL's Homework LP was one of the first records I bought when I started DJing 'properly' back in 2007. 

If u don't know STL - very lofi, brittle, dubby, wooden, not overly bassy, discordant, minimal, scratchy, lush, strangely funky stuff, beautiful in its own way. And he does these locked grooves on most of his records, which I've mixed up here into a two hour special at 133⅓bpm. I recorded it with a new rotary EQ mixer (thanks Dean!) and then ran it through my Roland RE-201 Space Echo (thanks Maciej!)...

U might be surprised (if u listen) how organic and varied u can make a single loop, with the right EQing, cutting, boosting, fader tricks and so on - it was a lot of fun to mix, but I don't think this is a DJ thing just for other DJs.

Hope u enjoy... most of these locked grooves are on Stephan's label Something, a couple on Perlon, Echocord and so on.

In his own words: "I picked out sum random rekkids, gave em a run thru n then we proceeded to blaze ourselves stoopid. Sumwhere inbetween that I scratched one of the records (had to be taken out) and found the Melvin Sparks (RIP) skit. This is the end result, skips, warped media and all."

Couple weeks ago an old buddy emailed me...  "Serge... I digitalized some old mixes you did back in the days... you interested in the files? They're pretty cool!  One has written 'Clone Store selection December 1996' on it".  Dude of course!!

Recorded in the very first Clone store location, the old Urban Unit skatestore garage... 23 years ago.  While my neightbours of Midtown records were selling shit and shit loads of gabber (which was at its peak and total mainstream in 1996), I was selling records to the freaks and recording mixes like this in the quiet hours in the shop.

The only Pioneer equipment used was the headphone, the classic SE450... mixed on a crappy Realistic mixer.....the tape had some glitches as it's probably a copy, or a copy of a copy, as the reach of such a mix was probably about 10 friends who all copied from each other...  Funny when you realize how easy is it to reach 1000's via Soundcloud and Youtube these days, while back then you only made these mix tapes for a couple buddies... :-)

 I can use some help with track id’s as I barely remember 4 of them... time screws up your memory 😂
