Bet.e & Stef took the country by storm over a decade ago with their pop meets jazz, bossa-nova and latin stylings. Remarkably, they earned a Gold record in Canada with their self-released first album, "Jazz Bossa Nova". A deal with Japan's Toshiba-EMI soon followed, along with interest from every major record label in Canada. This JUNO-nominated duo from Montréal, Québec chose to partner with Universal Music Canada, achieving Platinum with their second album, "Day By Day.'' Both milestones were even more remarkable given their global, multilingual sound was a far cry from the pop music du jour. Numerous sold-out performances at the Montreal International Jazz Festival earned them critical acclaim that took them beyond borders. Radio success in Québec, across Canada, and in Japan followed with their hit singles ''Day By Day'' and ''It's All Right'' spending weeks at the top of the charts. Tracks from the album have been charted and played by some of the key players in the scene and also licensed for OM records, Defected and Clubstar compilations.
Cameron Cooper is a young producer from Sydney, Australia with a strong passion for Deep House and Dance music across the board. Breaking into the scene early 2013, having his remix selected by Joyce Muniz (BRAZIL, Exploited) on JackMode, a label with thousands of followers. Just ahead of the release of his excellent Crossing Wires compilation, Timo Maas’s relationship with the My Favorite Robot label continues to flourish with this new EP. Offering two new and exclusive cuts from said forthcoming compilation - plus another special remix from My Favorite Robot - it is pure techno excellence.

Timo Maas is of course an enduring techno icon famed for his eclectic sound and always compelling EPs and LPs. The most recent of those came late last year and featured high profile collaborations with the likes of James Lavelle, Mikill Pane and Placebo's Brian Molko, whilst throughout his career he has released on labels including Cocoon and Perfecto as well as running his own Rockets & Ponies outlet.

First comes ‘Watching the Robots’, a meandering bit of deep and mid tempo techno with a fat, dystopian synth line that spreads across the whole horizon of the track like a search light. Subtly fizzing electronics and imposing melodic drones circle to add even more sci-fi ambiance and it makes for a pleasingly otherworldly listen.

On the flip is ‘Z Panorama’, an equally bleak vision of the future with a droning synth line falling down the scale and sucking you right in as a result. The slick beats roll on below and sad piano notes linger long in the air, all the while conjuring filmic intergalactic imagery in the listener’s mind. The My Favorite Robot trio quicken the tempo on their remix, layering in a light dusting of dancing hi hats and miniature melodic explosions that colour the night sky in some style. A molten acid line also creeps in to complete the perfectly future facing and expansive sonic
picture.

These tracks are at the very heart of the forthcoming compilation and prove Timo, decades after first announcing his arrival with that remix of Azzido Da Bass, is as pioneering and essential as ever.

Here is the Seth Troxler remix of the track 'I Try To Talk To You' which is co-written by the excellent John Grant. The track is taken from the album 'The Feast Of The Broken Heart' which was released on the 26th May.

The first vocal collaboration of the new album's recording sessions, John's sexy tomcat voice and lyrical ability for translating hardship into elegance lent themselves greatly to the new album.

Andy Butler explains: "I asked John to dig deep with his lyrical contribution. I had no idea he would dig so deep. He tackled the story of becoming HIV positive, and while I mentioned to him that he did not need to go there if he was not comfortable, in that beautifully punky, spirited and courageous way he has about him, he told me that was what the song was going to be about. What came of it is an elegant song featuring John singing and playing his heart out.”

'I Try To Talk To You' was released with remixes on the 9th June.

Engineers release their fourth album, Always Returning, on 11th August via Kscope. Engineers, who currently comprise Liverpudlian multi-instrumentalist Mark Peters and celebrated German ambient artist/producer Ulrich Schnauss and London based drummer and composer Matthew Linley, have been creating mesmerising music with brilliantly shaded guitar textures and teasing lyrical ambiguities for over ten years across three albums -- 2005's debut Engineers  ('hypnotic lullabies from beautific Brit newcomers' **** Q), 2009's Three Fact Fader ('a blistering statement of intent' **** The Sunday Times), and 2010's swift follow-up In Praise of More ('should be given to most UK bands as an example of in making an album that is a joy to behold' 8/10 Clash).

Written and recorded alone at home in York by Peters, before being coated with deft brush strokes of ambient electronica by Schnauss; Always Returning is a record that unhurriedly drifts in and out of focus, hinting at themes without ever making them so explicit that the listener can't map out their own personal interpretations. It delivers an overall emotional heft that's impossible to pull away from.

If the album has a theme, its the sense that our internet-led all-access culture is stripping away the mythology and mystery in music. "As a teenager looking into the future I'd have loved to have been able to hear anything all the time, anytime," says Peters. "But everyone's so used to getting that now, and getting information about artists instantly, that it's undermining music and art in general."

An analogue approach was taken to give the album warmth, with live drums recorded in a day by Matthew Linley; computers discarded in favour of 70s processors.  The title of the album, Always Returning, reflects Peters' addiction to the creative process; it's an album about his own submission to the thrill of simply making music.

"Music's something I talk about every day, something I'm always going back to. I can't imagine finishing an album and not having a compulsion to get right back into it," he says. So it is that Always Returning feels different yet the same, reflecting as it does a passion that's never dimmed.
