Abstract Division is a young and exciting collaboration between two veteran techno artists; Paul Boex and Dave Miller. Paul is label-boss of the respected Dynamic Reflection imprint, experienced DJ and producer, and the driving force behind the succesful Mental Evolution events in the Netherlands. Dave has earned his stripes through a longstanding career of (vinyl-only) DJ-sets, productions with Damian Keane and as part of the Audiosculpture collective. Combining their love of and keen ear for techno that stands out from the gray majority, Abstract Division knows how to surprise, teach and get people dancing their faces off all at once.

Conveying a characteristic sound that stems from a mutual background in Detroit, Berlin and Birmingham techno, Abstract Division merges a basement vibe with a warehouse feel; drones and soundscapes meet straightforward uplifters in a way that makes sense. With well over twenty years of shared experience in playing out and producing tracks under their belt, Abstract Division knows their game and fits any bill perfectly. Getting a room in the right mood, building on a present vibe or tearing a club a new one; leave it to them to deliver on all occasions.

Up until now Abstract Division have released two well-received trilogies on Dynamic Reflection: “Form and Function” and “Time and Perception”, containing both original tracks and remixes by Norman Nodge, Psyk, Jonas Kopp, Ben Sims, Delta Funktionen, Shifted and more. They have also released music on Orbis Records and Labrynth and have more new material coming up. In the meantime, their agenda has been rapidly filling up with performances at Berghain, Tresor, Awakenings and Awakenings Festival, Sonar and more.

Yep, Run It Red is 50 episodes young and I’m genuinely fucking delighted!! In just over 4 years I’ve dropped just under 3500 tracks, in just over 131 hours of new music and i’m really very proud of reaching the big 5.0!

I love doing this show and celebrating all the fresh beats that come my way every month, I especially love doing it on NTS - it's such a great radio station. 
The balance of styles, the many guest stints and monthly residencies, being a station that can boast having legands like Jeff Mills or Andy Weatherall as contributors while channeling the vibe of a golden era pirate is simply amazing - it’s so good to be part of the family. 

I’ve, pretty much, had a regular radio show since the 90s and had spots on a number of legal, illegal, online and digital stations over the years (inc Atmosphere FM, Centre Force, Stomp Radio, Chillin fM, Deep Frequency, Rinse FM and many more) but Run it Red is the show that’s been my most consistent, most successful and (dare I say it) most professional.
The focus of solely new music (bought or been sent in the 4 weeks previous to the show) means I’m constantly on the look out for beats. It puts me in touch with lots of new artists and labels that i might have otherwise not been plus loads of the material for my own labels and sets was originally sent in for the show and it’s R.I.R. where I first test it out, so the show is the really the centre of everything I do in this Techno world now and I wouldn’t have it any other way. 

Huge love to the NTS crew for the support and opportunity, and a sincere, heartfelt thank you to everyone who sends me music or listens to the show, it truly wouldn’t be possible without you!

February's episode on the MindTrip Podcast welcomes Swedish techno icon Joel Mull. Joel is one of the main artists who pushed Stockholm's underground scene forward since the mid '90s. He is among the very few who believed that techno would be the music of tomorrow and he clearly proved that with his musical career over the last two decades releasing numerous albums and EPs with his percussive signature sound on labels like Harthouse, Truesoul, Parabel, Dystopian while showcasing his DJing skills at the biggest clubs all over the world. Today Joel is finishing his new album that will be soon released on the label A Strangely Isolated Place under his alias Damm. American Phase Fatale is one of the residents responsible for defining the current Berghain sound. As well as regular DJ sets in the Berlin techno dungeon, his latest album, 'Scanning Backwards' — which was released on in-house label Ostgut Ton last month — was made with the cavernous club in mind. Just like his arresting DJ sets take influence from post punk, EBM and industrial, the album also looks outside techno's usual borders: snippets of speech, "brain-penetrating instrumentation" and plenty of raw textures all inform its grooves and make for a hugely visceral listen.

On this week's mix, he serves up an uncompromising set of angular rhythms, doom laden synths and fizzing techno that is perfect for the darkest dance floors out there. Importantly, there are still nuances along the way despite the pumping machismo of it all. They keep you on the edge of your seat as the dystopian drama unfolds and all consuming bleakness draws you ever deeper into a world devoid of human life forms. It's beautiful brutality from start to finish.
