“Drop The Other,” the first e.p. from Emika – and already making a late shout for one of the year’s most auspicious debuts. Even before release, Emika’s has received airplay from tastemaking DJs like Zane Lowe + Mary-Anne Hobbs. On “Drop The Other,” eerie, near-classical piano collides into glitched-out edits and skitering drum patterns, while speaker-shattering lows rub against Emika’s own hushed, cryptic vocals, the iconoclastic blend marking her an artist that makes a habit of defying expectation. Just when you think you know what you’re hearing, Emika flips the script: the cinematic sound architecture evokes the deepest techno, but the tempo moves too slow, the beats too jagged; the sub-bass, meanwhile, could shudder the most underground dubstep club, but it’s paired with haunting, syncopated vocal hooks that suggest Aaliyah’s work with Timbaland taken to its darkest extreme.

 “I make pop, but with a hard edge, playing different sounds and intensities against each other,” she explains. “I try to stay on the fence, leaving room for the listener to create a sense of what its about. It’s all about tension for me.” Tension, indeed. Emika’s music evokes comparison to the visionary likes of the XX, Fever Ray, The Knife, Burial and Circlesquare – artists that stand outside of genre, maintaining an uncanny timelessness of their own. As such, the words and sonics captured on “Drop The Other” prove both utterly catchy but experimental, erotic yet never overtly sexual, clearly confessional but shrouded in mystery.It’s a sound and vision that parallels Emika’s roundabout entrée into becoming a performing artist, a musical journey spiraling from suburban London and inner-city Bristol to cutting-edge Berlin. 

Emika has called in some fantastic remixes. Scuba aka Paul Rose was a London dubstep pioneer, but in 2007 he too relocated to Berlin. His “Vulpine Remix” gets foxy with the original, importing vinyl static, ticking clocks and reversed cymbals, disembodying the vocals and making something deep and driving all at once. GeRM, meanwhile, takes the track “Double Edge” and spin it out into euphoric, glitchy electro-house that has already found its way on to Ministry of Sound playlists.  Emika is also working collaboratively with visual artist Mox, developing designs and video inspired by her music, as well as a kinetic, multimedia live show. Emika's music is full of unexpected emotional alleyways and late-night allure, tones that alternate between crushing and beautiful, beats hypnotic in both the club and in solitude. “Balancing the future and convention, submission and control—that’s very important to me,” Emika concludes. “What I find powerful is the margins: those things inbetween, pointing out but never explaining. It never resolves, so it leaves a pit inside you – but I like the pit.”

Lydmor - Helium High 

Lydmor (@lydmor) is maybe one of the most exciting and shimmering young musician, singer and songwriter on the nu pop circuit and is finally to release a brand new single ‘Helium High’.

Most recently she formed the duo Lydmor & Bon Homme together with Whomadewho’s Tomas Høffding and released the album ‘Seven Dreams Of Fire’ (hfn music). In addition to it Lydmor already released two solo albums, the lates being ‘Y’ (Sony).

Lydmor aka Jenny Rossander is also a brilliant live performer as proven at the explosive shows with Lydmor & Bon Homme, but also on several solo-tours around the world. She played for example in New York, Mexico City, Milan, London, Hamburg, Tokyo and Shanghai and has recently shown a special interest in Asia where she has been part of a tour and resided for a while.

Lydmor has an outstanding empathy and feeling that can be experienced in everything she’s involved in and on the new single she unfolds in a way we have not heard her before.

“‘Helium High’ is about something I have not written so much about before. It’s about being a woman. I need to show a version of femininity that we rarely see. The female anger and the female authority are deeply under-represented in modern society and therefore it may be obvious to forget what it looks like. It is much easier for a heterosexual man to “demand respect” than for women or other sexualities. But I think we internationally see that this is changing. And we are angry. And we take control.“

Lydmor recorded and produced ‘Helium High’ with the Copenhagen based production trio ‘Methena’ and is going to perform it live in January at the Eurosonic Festival 2018.

ticktock - a violence of innocence

It’s more than exciting to have the outsider pop band ticktock (@ticktockgoestheclock) back on the block. Sebastian Zieler, Jacob Koefoed, and Jens Skovgaard have a knack for making emotive, inventive, and detail-oriented music. A Violence of Innocence is a four-track EP that revels in the band’s love for creating sublime moments from disparate angles. It’s a postmodern mesh of genres with songs that warp and mutate from start to finish.

Thematically, the four tracks deal with disappointment, hope, love, curiosity, and sex. But the red thread is a deep-rooted wish to uplift, no matter the subject matter:

“For a while now, we’ve thought about positivity in music being a bit of a holy grail. We failed on this EP, really - life got in the way, and a break-up and stress has had to be dealt with in song form. But we’ve tried not to off-load feelings on the listener, and instead to let them go full circle - to have each song provide a solution to the problem it presents.” says frontman Sebastian Zieler.

To this end, the band has tried to sneak an uplifting element in through the backdoor - to load the music with the intention to uplift. Good friends in good moods have been enlisted on several tracks: a drunk, middle- of-the-night jam between friends provides the backbone for the outro of the title track, and the EP’s choir parts were recorded by a veritable who’s who of the Danish underground, with everyone in the room being in on the idea: “We tried to play with an open hand, and to tell everyone what our intention was. Each element - from lyrics, to arrangement, and to mix - has been loaded this way.”

It’s audible in how each track morphs along the way: The soulful outro of the title track, the ride-into-the-sunset chorus of Pregnant, the cataclysmic beauty that replaces the synthetic grit of Hatefuck, and the climatic joy of Come Anywhere. It’s a tangible feeling throughout, and a welcome one in times with stress, anxiety, and depression as the psychological pandemics.

"Humanity", the new original song from Barcelona-based artist Brunetto (featuring Bearoid vocals) mixes electronica, cinematic and futuristic sounds in a soulful pop ballad. There are glimpses of innovative rhythms and his trademark deep, expansive, intricate atmospherical sound. 

The original track is due to be released next March-2nd alongside a full EP, there are a host of incredible remixes which bring the sounds of Brunetto that little closer to the dancefloor. There’s a certain polished refinement to the Sincopat vibe that gives the label's output more depth that the term "party music" might imply. “Mellizos” is a suitable evidence of this.  Darlyn Vlys music is mature and measured; a pleasant introduction into the craft. His eclectic and sometimes unpredictable style of combining unusual sounds into one track is just a gift. On the original song he challenges us to engage with his inversions, shimmering textures, self-reflexive bass lines, guitar licks and massive melodic arps that follows, allows these ideas to germinate; the track’s evolution is one marked by its own beauties and strangeness.

“Mellizos” sits somewhere between the dance-oriented, propulsive cinematic-nature of Darlyn Vlys and the more meditative, thoughtful side of the French artist.

This 1rst single hides a second motor under the chassis. A remix by Lauer spinning with more BPM than the original track, and that distils high-quality synth-disco and space-house. It is always appreciated to dance with an ear-to-ear grin; Lauer knows perfectly how to satisfy us with a captivating melody and boundless energy. The German Phillip Lauer aka Tuff City Kids delivers infused funky synths and retro drums.

Serge Devant returns to one of his favoured label’s with his White Groove EP , delivering a pair of deep, textured tracks that’ll vitalise any rigid dancefloor. Archie Hamilton makes his Crosstown Rebels debut and supplies a punchy, tripped-out revision of lead track, White Groove .

White Groove is an absorbing mix of rumbling sub bass, soft, textured percussion, and ethereal pads. Loose percussion and a tough kick carve out the initial vibe on C onnect To Server . A new electronic ninja hero visited Spaghetti Monster this time! So warm welcome please to Inner Rebels well known producer with his own handcraft in music and a great ear for making real underground hits. This time he brought a collaboration together with a young Montenegro’s producer Millok and a Crete sound experimenter T. Pals. Those three expressed and mixed melodic and groovy stuff and deserved attention of mighty Pete Oak who is no need to be introduced to electronic music lovers but who appears first and hopefully not a last time on Spaghetti Monster Recordings. His remix is dry groovy killer for a hard night dance floor with up to 4k crowd on it moving rhythmic way. Next comes Haze-M with a gentle tech episode and edit of an original as usually delivering not a one more edit per EP but extra and awesome remix. An EP closes with some synths and grooves dropped by Paul Anthonee who already collabed Inner Rebels before and know how to fit his style well. This stuff deserves your attention this month and heats a room at all the degree after a cold winter.

This debut album, entitled "Prince in the Rain" was designed, a kind of incredibly well cohesive original soundtrack, written within the parameters of a sci-fi film with a good dose of realism, drama and romanticism. The French artist born in Nimes, and now residing in Valencia, Spain- and whose name is Sylvain Soulier confesses about the title "it is inspired by a reverb preset very frequently used during the album composition, and that pays tribute to one of the artists who have inspired my musical career the most: the regrettably deceased Prince. " And if we add to that, that his child, the one in the artwork, is usually called at home Petit Prince (Little Prince), the entire work connects and brings us on another, higher emotional level.

Last year brought us revival of a masterpiece as Blade Runner, North Korea continued playing war, Planet Earth witnessed once again the destruction brought on by hurricanes like Harvey... but it was also a pretty hectic year for our guy Darlyn Vlys "I became a father of twins when I already had a 2-year-old baby, precisely whose photo appears on the cover of this LP… my child's face and his expression, I see myself 100% reflected in him when I was a kid".

In spite of the sacrifice that ‘double’ and fabulous surprise life brought him, 2017 also became a very creative and productive journey. This debut album, entitled "Prince in the Rain" was designed, a kind of incredibly well cohesive original soundtrack, written within the parameters of a sci-fi film with a good dose of realism, drama and romanticism. Musically speaking, we will find wisely assembled fragments of electronica: fragile melodies, vocal notes, snapping percussive beats igniting an uncertain yet intriguing mood, sometimes just beautiful loops, and reflective pad chords… very cinematic sounds! A corner where coexist from synth pop halfway cheerfulness and introspection -shoegaze, dream pop- to atmospheric textures of organic house and deep techno.  11 songs built with melodic structures and very detailed sounds where sometimes the lyrical wins (“Retrograde”, “Map to the Stars”), others mild and poetic (“Learned to Hide”, “Tears in the Rain”).
Other songs might surprise you, “Surface” where its choral and moral hypersensitivity could transport you to a ‘chef-d'oeuvre’ like "Goodbye" of Apparat with Soap&Skin. Darlyn Vlys is backed up for this occasion by the vocal collaboration of the Australian singer Haptic. Sparkling and gloomy. Emotional and escapist. Pure and mature. Vivid and full of conflicts, I mean…universal. The collabs of Andreas Kubat, lead singer of the alt-rock and electro German band Northern Lite (twice over: "Learned to Hide" and "Sun in the Hell") as well as the Belgian Rari in "Paradoxal", a kind of "Smalltown Boy" (Bronski Beat) but quite more contemporary and restrained, are also essential in the LP. We are not going to ignore the participation in the album of the musician and drummer Days Off; Kid Bucle (arrangements and perspective) and of course AFFKT, on the mastering and building a final mix of the overall project. AFFKT himself attests "mixing this album has been one of the biggest challenges, most difficult and complex jobs of my entire career as a sound engineer." All of them played a very important part in making this album one of the year's most absorbing and pulsating.

"Why Do Flowers Mean Love?" video concept started when Tom Uziel, video director and Yali made contact and instantly clicked. 
They wanted to give Yali the front in her debut EP and make her music visual as if it was another one of her instruments, a way to reflect the musical feelings and break-beats that she does so well. An audio-visual glitch video-art piece was constructed from the shoot-day footage, and was then fed into a custom built glitch machine developed in-house @ Phenomena Labs by Ronen Tanchum.
The music directly distorts the visual via mesh cutting and time slicing. This creates a feedback of pixel-sorting and other real-time generative techniques inducing this mind-bending glitch-art piece for this unique electronic musical track.

About the artist:
YALI is a 24 year old singer-songwriter, pianist and producer from Israel.
Her experimental style combines influences from Classical music, Jazz, and Electro-pop.
Throughout her childhood she studied classical piano and was a member of the Haifa Conservatory Ensemble.
On stage, YALI delivers a truly unique style of performance art. Each show may be completely different from the last or any other. 
She creates electronic beats through keyboards and synthesizers, improvising each one in addition to soft vocals. 
In the last two years she has toured worldwide with her first project. 
Currently, she is planning for the release of her debut EP- “Why Do Flowers Mean Love?”.
