Leipzig based TIBSLC (The International Billionaire's Secret Love Child) sculpts hazily ambiguous but meticulously detailed sounds hypersensitive to nanoscopic movements and fleeting midnight feels. Blending subtle environmental recordings with processed digital noise and feedback, the eight parts of ‘Delusive Tongue Shifts - Situation Based Compositions’ find themselves in good company on sferic’s roster of intuitive ambient explorers, but TIBSLC’s work is distinguished by an arcing narrative quality that emerges across its yawning spaces, each viewed by perspectives ranging from lofty, birds-eye to more intimate and voyeuristic.

About:
The work of multi-talented sound artist Ahmed El Ghazoly (also known as ZULI) has spilled over Cairo's borders onto the rest of the world, garnering support from the likes of Aphex Twin and Autechre. Leading up to ZULI's new album 'Lambda', the musician and producer, who is also determined to uplift other Middle Eastern creative voices, presented a new a/v performance with audiovisual artist Omar El Sadek.

"I'm a noodler." The vaunted experimental producer and DJ discusses his playful approach to engaging with philosophy and making art live at Atonal's OPENLESS in Berlin. 

British artist Lee Gamble has long been captivating listeners with high concept dance music. A loyal affiliate of Kode9's Hyperdub label, Gamble—whose work sits somewhere at the intersection of philosophy, computer music and sound art—has been building weird and wonderful musical worlds that have shot him to experimental stardom since the early 2010s. In this RA Exchange recorded live from Hard Wax (at the one-off weekender Atonal OPENLESS), Gamble meditates on his penchant for eschewing conventions, beginning with growing up in the countercultural, working class hub of Birmingham.

Gamble reflects on the first time he experienced what's called "future shock", a reference to a book by the same name written by sci-fi author Alvin Toffler. It set him on the pursuit of finding and making music that had a similarly bizarre quality. Gamble isn't just a producer but an avid admirer and connoisseur of critical theory, and he also discusses the thinkers who have informed his production (and even his approach to DJing), as well as his recent interest in the ethics and applications of AI and deep fakes, which he explores in a touching full-length, Models. Robert Rental takes up residence with Dark Entries again for an expanded double vinyl reissue of Mental Detentions. Robert Rental was a Scottish pioneer of DIY electronic music. Along with his illustrious collaborators like Thomas Leer and Daniel Miller, Rental helped shape the countercultural sound of the UK with his timely melding of Krautrock, dub, and punk. Originally from Port Glasgow, he moved to the south of England with Thomas Leer in the late 1970s, and became involved with the local music scene. Robert Rental however released very little of his solo music - the only solo recording from The 1970s is the 7" single "Paralysis" first released on the homemade Regular Records in 1978, and re-released on Dark Entries in 2020.
Mental Detentions was released as a cassette in 1979, the same year as his masterpiece The Bridge, a collaboration with Thomas Leer. Using an assortment of budget electronics - a Roland drum machine, a kid’s Stylophone keyboard, and an Electroharmonix DrQ - Robert takes us on a gauzy, trip, at once expansive and intimate, minimalist and maximalist. “Stuck” is mangled motorik, like Neu! run through a meat grinder, while “Vox” meanders like an 18 minute ambient fever dream. Robert spoke to friends of his frustration at being unable to replicate his sound in a commercial studio - it was these demos' sound that he wanted to create. Sometimes having only access to the most rudimentary of equipment can sharpen one’s craft - necessity is the mother of invention, indeed. This ethic shines in his work, providing a throughline to the now, as the world feels bigger and smaller than ever.

Her mix starts out slow, pacing through dark atmospheric slower techno, before catching alight; trekking up through the bpms infused with fast-paced psychedelic techno, trance & bass.

Foxtrot is a DJ born & bred in the realm of student radio, namely RDU 98.5fm in Otautahi / Christchurch. A longtime talented selector, convinced to give deejaying a go, she shone through her fast, genre-defying sets, gracing festivals and clubs up and down the motu in the post pandemic era of dancing.

Now having returned home after 18 months abroad, she is back with a newly refined & selective taste, encompassing deep percussive rhythms, psychedelic-infused bass & spacey bleep blops. Catch her over the NYE period at Aotearoa’s premier underground boutique electronic music festival, Twisted Frequency @twistedfrequencyfestival, as they celebrate their tenth anniversary.
