Fairmont is an artist very representative of a certain kind of producers operating in the dance music world. The kind who was listening to more alternative and traditional rock / pop music in their youth before entering the world of electronics.
It’s only ftting then that his latest release comes courtesy of Days Of Being Wild, a label which roots are frmly anchored in post-punk and new wave music, not so far from Border Community, a label Fairmont worked extensively with in the early 00’s and which releases boasted a serious nod to the shoegaze and post rock genres.
Fairmont (real names’s Jake Fairley) is an expert at blending, bending and reinventing his musical roots, ftting them into an electronic framework and managing to produce some of the fnest techno out there.
Because Fairmont’s music is techno in its essence, it’s looking forward, it sounds futuristic and it really makes you want to dance (ask the 20,000 people who bought his Gazebo 12” back in 2005)
In the last few years, Fairmont’s music has taken a darker and more twisted turn and this is what you will fnd here in this EP released on Days Of Being Wild.
‘Obsidian' and ‘Onyx', are two gems glittering in the darkest of clubs, under black strobes and icy blue lights. Drenched in robotic grooves and ghostly melodies this is dance music to loose yourself to, dancing and dreaming at the same time. The original mixes are in good company with two remixes, courtesy of the mighty Heretic and Days Of Being Wild co- owner Samuel Berdah.
Heretic’s version of ‘Obsidian' tones down the atmospheric side of the original and nudges the “techno” up, propelling the track towards a harder hitting edge.
Samuel Berdah’s remix with its syncopated beat and its batcave bass line sounds like an electronic Bauhaus. All ghostly atmosphere forward and eery melodies out, he brings out the strange gothic beauty of Onyx.

Sam Barker (@voltek) has had a long ongoing relationship with Berghain and Ostgut Ton, having released two LPs and various EPs as one half of Barker & Baumecker and hosting regular nights at the club since September 2008 as co-founder of the label Leisure System. 2017 marked the beginning of his solo residency, 2018 sees his first solo release with Ostgut Ton.

Both as a musician and label owner, Barker operates on the fringes of techno, balancing experimentation with functionality. On ‘Debiasing’, he takes a hard look at the musical elements often considered necessary to maintain dancefloor momentum, with four distinct tracks of morphing synth stabs and paired down metronomic rhythms in varying time signatures. While there is no kick, snare, or clap to be heard, the result is not experimental techno deconstructions but driving, hypnotic and unlikely dancefloor tools.

Barker | Cascade Effect

Over the past four years, Hayden Payne aka Phase Fatale has earned a reputation as a techno innovator, both for the broad spectrum of dystopian electronics included in DJ sets as well as his deep understanding of synthesis and sound design in his own productions. Having previously released on labels such as Jealous God, Payne made his Unterton debut with last year’s Anubis EP. Since then he has settled into residences at both Berghain in Berlin and Khidi in Tbilisi, released his first LP on Hospital Productions and kicked off his own label BITE with a collaborative EP between himself and Silent Servant.

On his debut 4-track EP for Ostgut Ton, Reverse Fall, The New York native has sharpened the rhythmic contours of his productions, creating an imposing wall of sound within the techno framework. Inspired in part by Crash, J.G. Ballard's dystopian novel on the fetishization of car crashes, Reverse Fall is uncompromising motorized, cybernetic techno – infused with haunting soundtrack-like flourishes reminiscent of films by directors John Carpenter and Dario Argento.

A night drive accelerating at the pace of a dark, melodic bassline and distorted hi-hats. “Reverse Fall” is available across streaming platforms, as a single track and as an instant gratification download with the purchase of the full digital release.

Miss Kittin & The Hacker release ‘Lost Tracks Vol. 2’ on Josh Cheon’s Dark Entries label on 25th June. We’ve got the exclusive premiere of ‘Love On 26’ from it above.

Miss Kittin & The Hacker, real names Michel Amato and Caroline Hervé, worked on a number of EPs together in the late ‘90s that landed on DJ Hell’s International DJ Gigolo label.

Their long-revered electro sound is influenced by 1980s synthpop and post-punk bands like Fad Gadget, D.A.F., Liaisons Dangereuses and Yazoo.

‘Lost Tracks Vol. 2’ contains four previously unreleased demos recorded between 1997 and 1999.

Speaking about the track, Hervé told DJ Mag, “It’s a track we were not really satisfied with in the beginning. I had to sing straight live, as you can hear.

“The lyrics were about a joke we often said to each other: it’s not in the music business we will find a family."

All the tracks on the release have been transferred from the original DAT tapes and remastered for vinyl.

Premiere: Miss Kittin & The Hacker ‘Love On 26’

“Lost Tracks Vol. 2” contains 4 previously unreleased demos recorded between 1997 and 1999.  The duo fused 80’s European New Wave/Italo Disco with 90’s Detroit Electro acts like Le Car and Dopplereffekt. By utilizing verse-chorus structures, they playfully shook up the loop based hard techno and electro that was popular at the time. Their studio set up at the time was a Korg MS-20, Roland SH-101, TR-606, TR-808, Siel DK80, and Boss DR-660 drum machine. The songs are direct, spontaneous, seemingly improvised in places. Miss Kittin sings about falling in love in the new millennium, snuff movies and controlling the unknown trip to death, all in her cheekily derisive French accent


All songs have been transferred from the original DAT tapes by the band and remastered for vinyl by George Horn at Fantasy Studios. The vinyl comes housed in a glossy jacket featuring a black and white photo of the duo taken in 1996. Each LP includes a postcard with liner notes from Miss Kittin and The Hacker designed by Eloise Leigh. As Miss Kittin says of these demos, “We were naive, innocent, adventurous and we didn’t expect anything in return”.

Rob Insinia (AKA Headman's) Relish has been a staple of the Indie Dance scene for the past years and a highlight of the release calander has been the Relish Compilation with its brand of EBM with a live edge. 
With Contributions from artists as far afield as Daniel Avery, Richard Fearless and Tel Aviv based artists like Red Axes.  Relish IV continues to shine a light on Israel's cultural institution by shining a light on Niv Ast with his contribution Tatiana.
Tatiana is a percussive little ditty with plenty of cowbell, an understated bassline and electronic blips which creep on to the dancefloor unannounced before forcing the hips to wiggle. Subtle eastern flavours charm the synths where vocals add that little extra menace to a track which is already understated but deadly.
Headman has always walked the line between established talent and breaking new artists bringing producers like Mondowski and Maya Danon to the fore and Niv Ast is another name to add to the staple of talent in the Relish camp.

Born in Miami with a Cuban background, Cry Baby has been strongly attracted to dance music since her earliest teen years, crashing raves since age 12 and immersing herself in the legendary South Florida dance culture of the 90s. Her growing hunger to share and perform led her to learn to DJ in her 20s, but soon found the lack of opportunities for women in her hometown stifling, so in 2010 she relocated to Brooklyn.

As soon as she landed in New York, Cry Baby wasted no time making a splash, playing a dizzying array of clubs, underground warehouses and private parties all over the city. Her own party series, House On Mute, quickly earned residencies at top clubs Submercer, Output and Le Bain, while also maintaining a strong underground presence at countless warehouse and loft spaces in Brooklyn. 

Her dancefloor selection style straddles the house-techno divide, distilling and blending them in novel and potent concoctions, with a freshness, fluidity and thrust all her own. It was in 2011 that she began quietly experimenting with her own productions, slowly but intently developing a unique tech-house alchemy with influences in minimal and deep dance flavors in equal measure. Her first track, an enchanting and heady remix of Caiwo, was released on Euphoria Records in 2015, and was followed up by a split collaboration with Derek Marin on the legendary New York imprint Nervous Records. 

With her impressive releases came the demand to bring her signature sound to international destinations, and in 2015 she completed her first European tour, dazzling audiences in Berlin, Stockholm and Prague, and she returned for a lengthier second tour in 2016, which brought her to Ibiza, Barcelona, Vienna, Luxembourg and back to Berlin for multiple performances to much acclaim. Back stateside, she has continued playing larger venues, with appearances at Mysteryland USA, Brooklyn Electronic Music Festival, and several Mixmag Lab showcases, while maintaining her deep connection to the emerging underground techno scene in Brooklyn.

Cry Baby's hustle did not go unnoticed; in 2016 she was tapped by Mixmag to join their Smirnoff Sound Collective project, which brought together a dozen of America's most intriguing up-and-coming artists in a year-long experimental talent showcase. Her experience there inspired her to create FM Elle: a female-driven record label, collective and event series meant to highlight and empower underrepresented female artists from all over America. With more tours around the world and further original releases and remixes in the works, the future is looking increasingly bright for this busy rising star.

2017 saw the arrival of Pin Up Club here at the Bordello with a superb three tracker, Friends of the Vortex. Now the Dutch partnership are back. This time a quartet of tracks has been selected to produce The Forever Machine. The bold bars of Friends of the Vortex, the romantic rushes and soundtrack silhouettes are all present with new elements being introduced to further develop a truly unique style. Breathy vocals and melancholy are countered by warm synthlines in the brooding “Valis” before the lonesome “Is There Anybody Out There?” blooms into a daringly bright work of disco dimensions. Opening the flip is the title piece. Smouldering, “The Forever Machine” burns with quivering chords that rise ever skyward on a column of tight rhythms as lyrics spiral ever upward. “A Deepness In The Sky” is a perfect illustration of Pin Up Club’s ability to transform burgeoning sombre sounds into tempered elation, rumbling strings and fragile percussion intermingling for a heady finale. Ciao ragazzi. Rome's Teslasonic (@mr_feedback) is next on Budapest-based Dalmata Daniel (@dalmata-daniel) with a 12-inch. The remix of 'Quantum paradox' was done by The Hacker (@the-hacker). The Frenchman also has a release on Teslasonic's MinimalRome (@minimalrome) label. The remix is a more technoid approach to the original electro track. The patterns are changed (it's a new track) and the result is a dance floor hit.

‘Panama / Suez’ is the first EP by trio @OrenAmbarchi, @KonradSprenger and Phillip Sollmann (aka @Efdemin). The three multi-instrumentalists collaborated with the goal of creating subtly shifting musical passageways: sonic routes that run between continents of musical category.

The results are two variations of kraut-y, groove-based post-techno that unfurl through mutating polyrhythms and chiming, ethereal guitar play – a rare moment of guitar and techno in deep embrace.

With a potential to sustain energy on experimental dancefloors, Panama / Suez lives from Ambarchi, Sprenger and Sollmann’s diverse input while reflecting a common penchant for both pop and the hypnotic.

On October 19th Kompakt presents a new LP and audiovisual venture by Danish producer Kasper Bjørke and close cohorts. Epic and in length but always captivating, ‘The Fifty Eleven Project’ is an entirely ambient concept album, that interprets and evokes the emotional rollercoaster Kasper experienced, from his cancer diagnosis and throughout the five years of regular check-ups. The week of album release marks his second anniversary of getting the all-clear.

The base of the album was composed on vintage analogue synthesizers, reverbs, echo and sequencers – using the computer solely as a recording device – by Kasper and synth wizard Claus Norreen, in the latter’s Copenhagen studio.

The violins, violas and cellos are composed and played by the Italian composer Davide Rossi, who has also worked with Ennio Morricone, Jon Hopkins, Röyksopp, The Verve and Goldfrapp.

The piano parts are composed and played by Danish musician Jakob Littauer (of Kompakt labelmates Jatoma) on an old upright piano in a studio, and on a Steinway Grand Piano in the concert hall at the Royal Danish Music Conservatorium.

From Max Richter’s ‘SLEEP’, Hannah Peel’s ‘Mary Casio: Journey To Cassiopeia’, to much of Brian Eno’s ‘Music For Installations’, ‘The Fifty Eleven Project’ continues in a rich vein of work by contemporary composers which explores a situation/condition, and is made with functionality and healing in mind.

The visual side of ‘The Fifty Eleven Project’ is made in collaboration with the culture laboratory Prxjects and acclaimed LA based artist/filmmaker/photographer Justin Tyler Close, who has created art films for each of the album’s 11 tracks - plus one music video, including clips from all 11 films. The 11 films will be assimilated into a video exhibition at Klub in Copenhagen from 12th – 21st October. The ambition is that the installation will tour Europe and the US in 2019.

Furnished in an exquisite fabric box, this 180 gram 3LP clear vinyl box is presented by cover art created by world-renowned artist Landon Metz, further cementing the release’s multidisciplinary links to the art world.

Drawing inspiration from her first worldwide tour, where life on the road was impacted by personal loss, the album title Pink Bubble captures the essence of the artist’s mindset, caught in between the artistic world and real life: “I felt like in a pink bubble, between memories and new experiences, between darkness and colours”. Brandishing an immersive sonic sphere, the classically trained musician played and recorded all instruments throughout the album, including her favourite weapons of choice, from her beloved 60’s guitar to vintage analog synths like the Moog Sub37, Juno 106, the infamous O-B-6 synth and more.

The synesthesia of dark and colourful with new and old memories stands at the core of the album, as introspective airy tracks intertwine with more dynamic, bass-heavy constructions.

On its luminous side, we see cuts radiating with crystalline, microscoping sounds with sweeping ambience like the opener A Perfect Day in Tulum, leading the listener on a nervous path towards more obscure tracks such as Copenhagen and Nothing to Lose, until bringing the atmosphere to a boiling point. Music is Life encapsulates Giorgia’s passion for her craft, an intrinsic part of her life that brings peace and inspiration: “Music is life with wings, sit in the warm water, just reflecting, being”. Creation and being inspired represent another major theme present throughout the album, both in the eponymous track Inspiration, as well as A Temple Made by Air, where the artist can be heard singing: “Passion means satisfaction, wrong emotions create distortion, come with me to enjoy the green, stop losing time on your screen”. Channelling an overflow of emotions, a return to humanity comes as a resolution for the artist, the central idea in The Contact is a Cure. Giorgia feels that, although useful, “technology is the big nightmare of our society, and we are all missing the contact with nature and human beings”. Rounding off the last part of the release, the sun-drenched Pink Bubble stands as reflective and intense, managing to transfuse the same magnetism that is quintessential to Giorgia’s live performances.

With Pink Bubble, Giorgia Angiuli refines her signature sound across a range of tempos, in a project that can be appreciated both for its intricate groundings and beautiful simplicity.
