We hand over to James Grant from Anjunadeep in Hour 2, the independent record label based in London, which started in 2005 and is known for music from the deeper end of the house music spectrum. He told us;
“This mix is mainly a collection of future releases on Anjunadeep, with a few other recent favourites sprinkled in. It gives a flavour of our new Anjunadeep 09 compilation and hopefully works as a bit of an intro to the label for anyone not already familiar with us. Overall we try to sign music with melody and emotion - one artist we’re particularly excited about is Lycoriscoris, a Japanese producer who contributes the third track in this mix. That particular track is more dancefloor-oriented but he’s working on an album for us and writes beautiful, soulful electronica that I’d hope followers of Ninja might enjoy too. Another favourite of mine is track 6 in the mix, by Martin Roth. It’s a hypnotic, posh trancer that pretty much embodies the sound of Anjunadeep.”

The curious crimson and mischievous mahogany of The Armory’s upper floor set the scene for these sweet, sexy sounds.  

I felt in flow with this one. A set where when I finished, I wasn’t totally sure what just happened; I got lost in the energy of the evening. It was an honor to play for such a beautiful, engaged crowd at one of the last parties The Armory may ever see.

Honestly, I usually get pretty nervous when I play. I’ll have moments where I’m able to let go and ride the sonic waves, but often I get stuck in my own head. As I’ve been doing more events at different venues and times for crowds of varying engagement levels, I’m learning that there are many variables you can try to control for, but ultimately, you have to do you. When I am up there truly feeling it, I can open the door for others to come feel it with me. With this set I was able to live that truth.

How lucky and blessed do I feel, to not only be invited to my first Rhythm Society event -- a bay area underground institution since 1995 -- but to be also trusted to DJ such an important time slot -- right after the midnight hour! We had a great hour together on the dance floor, and now I get to share it with you :)

Excitement, energy, elation – so many feelings this week with spring at our doorstep, the return of the sunshine in San Francisco, and my step back into reality after attending an incredible Envision in Costa Rica. 

Welcome to the next part of my mix series: Forms | States 03.

Forms | States 03 is meant to put a pep in your step, inspire a dedication in your day, and give a move to your groove. It brings together an upbeat fusion of tribal, tech house, and vocal elements as well as an ever-driving bassline. It speaks to much of my inspiration found in the jungle at Envision, to my thrill of moving into warmer days, and to my excitement about what's to come. 

Let the music take whatever form you'd like to hear. Maybe it's the midweek pick-me-up you need. Enjoy.

The Menagerie Block Party @ Midway SF

For Opulent Temple's 2019 annual Wednesday night Sacred Dance party, we were hosted by our friends at Playground since we didn't have a sound camp this year.  I played 10-11 before Carl Cox.  So the goal was walking the fine line of being engaging & building energy but still being a proper "opening set" for Carl, and not hot dogging it.

2 songs (Sunshine & Peanut Butter), were by my friend and vocalist Ida Flo, who sang live up on stage next to me.  The night was pure magic, the energy gorgeous, the vibe palpable.  Hope this takes you back, let me know what you think!
