Francisco Barahona aka Fresko is a fresh artist talent from Portugal, who returns after his recent DEAD CERT. "Hypochondria" is a wild and abstract take on techno that's full of creativity and character using its obscure elements to deliver a unique piece of sound design.

For this week, we invited the Dutch DJ Maarton. His sound ranges from teasingly pure and deep to pounding and industrial, always sonically electrifying.  Since 2016 he has been organizing IN AIR, his own live streamed underground sets at unique remote locations.  Since then he has been firing up dance floors in Amsterdam, Haarlem, Den Haag and Leeuwarden.

Maarton's DNA is rooted in house music rom the late 80’s. He started off with a sampling keyboard, distortion unit and tape recorder. Later on, he started programming midi controllers for his hybrid sets to create a striking sound and energy flow in his performances. It evolved into his expressive signature DJ sound.

- T’es qui meuf ? 

Hello ! Moi c’est Sibel, DJ lyonnaise de techno. J’ai toujours baigné dans la musique, j’ai appris le violon et le solfège dès l’enfance et ado, avec mon orchestre, on faisait des concerts un peu partout pendant plusieurs années. Cela fait 5 ans que je m’intéresse à la musique électronique et cela a commencé avec la house, le groove, car tout ce qui est dansant résonne en moi ! Puis je me suis peu à peu tournée vers la techno, au gré des découvertes en soirées, en festivals à l’étranger et surtout dans les soirées queer et safe. Dans mon quotidien, j’écoute beaucoup de jazz, musique turque, musique baroque, bossa nova… mes influences sont multiples.

Mon esthétique musicale oscille entre rythme hypnotique et tempo rapide de la techno mentale, le tout dans une atmosphère minimaliste et sombre. A Lyon je m’investis principalement dans deux collectifs : Unit Sœurs et Métanoïa. 

- Quels sont tes projets en cours ?

J’ai quelques projets de podcasts en cours côté perso. Je m’investis également pour le collectif Métanoïa, à travers l’organisation d’évènements pluridisciplinaires et ce dans un espace safe. Après avoir organisé deux évènements au Boomrang, on démarre notre résidence au Terminal en décembre, c’est l’occasion pour nous de partager notre vision de la fête ! Ce mois-ci j'ai eu l'occasion de mixer au Terminal à deux reprises, pour la soirée Pyrexia avec Fever Recordings, et pour Unit Soeurs.

Quelles sont tes influences locales ? 

Lyonnaise depuis un an et demi, je découvre les artistes locaux depuis peu. Avant de m’installer à Lyon, j’avais découvert BFVR, son travail m’avait influencé, j'aime particulièrement l’atmosphère hypnotique et sombre qui s’en dégage. Côté hard techno et indus, j’admire également le travail de Soraä et CARAVEL.

Hors de Lyon, mes autres influences sont des labels tels que Oni recordings (Istanbul), Influenced Records (Londres), Trau-ma (Portugal), Planet Rhythm (Rotterdam) …, des artistes comme Ben Sims, Setaoc Mass, Danny Wabbit, The Lady Machine, Arkan, Insolate ... pour en citer quelques-uns. Je suis également très influencée par le collectif Spectrum qui organise des soirées LGBTQ+ et j’apprécie particulièrement la programmation musicale, l’organisation générale et l’ambiance safe et respectueuse. 

Comment est-ce que tu aimerais voir évoluer le secteur évènementiel et culturel lyonnais ?

Etant donné que je me suis installée à Lyon depuis peu, je commence seulement à explorer le secteur évènementiel et culturel depuis quelques mois. J’aimerais avant tout que les lieux festifs soient des lieux safe pour tout le monde, il faut sensibiliser tous les acteurs, que ce soit les organisateurs et le public.

J’ai l’impression que de plus en plus de femmes sont bookées pour des évènements, surtout grâce au lancement du collectif Unit Sœurs il y a quelques mois. J’aimerais qu’on continue sur cette bonne dynamique et que l’on donne davantage de chance a des débutant.e.s sur la scène locale !
