Medical Records presents the eleventh release in our Transfusions 12” singles series. Guilt, the collaborative project of New York City based artists, Oliver Chapoy and Nathaniel Young, is the result of 2 recording sessions during the spring of 2017. Their self-titled debut perfectly illustrates their shared taste for cold and dissonant synth programing across 3 driving dance-floor ready cuts all rounded off by an unhinged remix from The Bunker New York’s Løt.te. The material focuses on blurring the lines between texture and melody and exploring the tonal qualities that result. For fans of labels such as Perc Trax, Aufnahme + Wiedergabe, Rodz-Konez, and Sonic Groove.

Six years on since his latest appearance on the label’s main series, Stroboscopic Artefacts boss Luca Mortellaro, aka Lucy, returns with ‘Dyscamupia’ – an introspective, multisensory techno triptych revolving around the core sequence of Albert Camus’ classic existentialist novel, ‘The Stranger’. Also known as the ‘killing of an arab’, this pivotal moment in Camus’ seminal book – which also inspired The Cure their song ‘Killing An Arab’ back in the day, is here evoked through three variedly intense, deep and hypnotic techno variations – flexing from 120 to 130, onto 140 BPM – each of them translating a particular step in the author’s minute, focal-shifting depiction of the unknown man’s murder on the beach.   

Embodying Meursault for a minute, Jason Snell lends his voice to the narrator and his inner demons, casting a strange, ominous spell on the club and its crowd. Willing to explore and dig up further into the textural wealth and crucial warmth of organic sounds and synthetic treatments, Lucy made wise use of the binaural microphones technology during the vocals recording process, greatly enhancing the immersive force of his compositions to create thoughtful, dystopic narrative bubbles that stand in their own right.

The first number, ‘ Dyscamupia (Forward)’, happens before and right until the actual killing – hence time flowing at a metronomic, heartbeat-like tempo; the second cut ‘Dyscamupia (Pause)’ takes place right after the nameless man’s death, when the narrator enters a kind of existential ‘pause’ and a whole new flow of consciousness begins; the third sequence, ‘Dyscamupia (Backward)’, plumbs the depths of the action itself as played backwards, like an equally hazed-out and dizzying reminiscence of the sad encounter’s mechanism. Don’t let its seemingly conceptual framework fool you though, like most of his past output ‘Dyscamupia’ also aims to bring dancefloors to a steady simmer, whilst maintaining Lucy’s ascending momentum towards an all-round genre-busting, thought-provoking apex.

NX1, Isolated Lines, Shawn O’Sullivan, Rommek and Israel Vines remix S.A.F.’s "The Hunter" on Ravage Black Series, from which we are premiering the Rommek re-work.

Dutch imprint and management house Ravage have been going from strength to strength since S.A.F’s inaugural release on their Black Series nearly three years ago. Ravage are widely known within Amsterdam for putting on parties around the Dutch capital inviting the likes Perc, Truss, Pariah, Sunil Sharpe and Bleaching Agent, but are more recently recognized for their agency and imprint representing and releasing music from the likes of Binny, Isolated Lines, Głós, Induction, Hadone, Forward Strategy Group, Zadig, In Aeternam Vale, Dimi Angélis, Tadeo and many more.

Rommek, who has releases on Blueprint, Methodical and Leyla Records provides an atmospheric remix of ‘Unaccepted Perseverance’ that fuses alleviating pads, syncopated grooves and otherworldly aesthetics throughout.

For this new Premiere, we have a track by the Spanish Duo SMFORMA from the EP "SMFORMA" [DREA 004] on the Spanish-Argentinean Label : Diffuse Reality Records.

SMFORMA is a fresh, notable and powerful hypnotic techno-EBM-electro-hard beats music collaboration between artists, Mario F. (electronics) and Jogile D. (voice, electronics). Besides SMFORMA, Mario plays noise as d.Forma, he’s ⅓ of electronic punk trio Dead Normal and runs the Lovethechaos label. Jogile D. has been exploring electronic music and performance through different projects for almost two decades. Lately, she has collaborated under the name Snegu Magdalene with several artists from Berlin in powerful video-performance “Transformation Face I - The Queen”.
