George Apergis aka EMEX is one of the pioneers of the Hellenic Electronic Dance Scene and the owner of Modular Expansion, which has been recognized by the Hellenic Ministry of Culture and the Municipality of Athens for its actions, including vinyl releases, art videos, and publishing events. He is also a European Design Award holder in the category Music & Films Covers. George Apergis is an established artist, label manager, and event organizer, with a career spanning years in Athens and Berlin. George Apergis plays DJ sets exclusively with vinyl and has performed in numerous European cities and famous venues such as Berghain, Tresor, Renate, Suicide, Sisyphos in Berlin, as well as in London, Rome, Barcelona, Sofia, Warsaw, Moscow, Tel Aviv, and the most prestigious venues in Athens. His releases “Quelle”, “Ekhowax”, “Waxtrax” and “Retrograde” on Modular Expansion were highly successful. He has also released music on labels such as Bellboy, unGleich, Omega Audio, Audio Therapy, Sabotage, Paranoid Dancer, In Fact, and Made of Concrete alongside his close friend Alexander Kowalski. In 2014, he created the EMEX project, which has seen numerous releases on labels such as Modular Expansion, Etruria Beat, Credo, Denude, SYXT, and Konsequent. In 2015, he released “00110001” with the support of KORG, which won the Silver Award at the European Design Awards. He also has two releases, “Hyperion” and “Cluster of Time”, with his Berlin-based friends at studio416. In 2022, he released “Hi'iaka” and in 2023 “Touch Infinity”, both supported by artistic video clips and backed by the Hellenic Ministry of Culture. His music has been remixed by artists such as Truncate, Zadig, Johannes Volk, NX1, Lee Holman, Brian Sanhaji, Subjected, Radial, Alexander Kowalski, SLV, Progression, Birth of Frequency, and Developer. Rising Techno star Nørbak makes a welcome return to Soma with his second release the Struggle In Vain EP. The prolific young Portuguese producer has had an incredible year so far in terms of releases and this 2nd release with Soma marks a decided upturn in showcasing his well crafted and defined sound. Adding to the EP’s already heavy sound is Spanish producer Kwartz who delivers an epic remix in his own inimitable style.

Subtly and hypnotism are trademarks of Nørbak’s sound and opener These Hurrying Years is a perfect example of him using both of these to work in tension throughout. Title track Struggle In Vain leans on driving and direct elements that deliver on pure intensity. It Will Not Consume Us works in broken beat rhythms allowing Nørbak to bring a sense of groove whilst more atmospheric elements evolve throughout. The Kwartz remix of It Will Not Consume Us closes out the EP with great depth as layer upon layer unfolds, utilising the original’s atmospheres and melodic tones, creating a whole new entity.

Unique and mesmerising deep techno from Magna Pia

Huseyin Evirgen returns to @soma for his 4th solo release under his Magna Pia alias with the stunningly constructed "Tocharian" EP. The classically trained musician always delivers heart & soul throughout his Magna Pia releases, taking the listener on a journey with every track.

Tocharian Sex swells with resonating and staccato synths hooks that guide you through swirling, glacial tones and shimmering percussion. Prester John leads with reverberating bells like tones than intensify throughout and once again, magna Pia’s delicate percussive elements work in tandem beautifully. Ur-David delivers a sinister tone and unnerving synths drone and swell, melding together in a unearthly cacophony. Closing out the EP is the minimalistic and hypnotically elemental The Beauty Of Loulan. Modulating synths give grace and sway as beautifully crafted drones and undertones bring an epic finality to this closing piece
