West Kerry native DJ Ben Ó Faoláin's genre-blurring eclecticism was inspired by dancefloor encounters with the djing of Coldcut, Afrika Bambaata and DJ Food while living in Bristol during the halcyon days of that city's mid-90s music scene. His 'Sweet Beat!' night is a feature of festivals and dancefloors from Belfast to Baile an Fheirtéaraigh .
Ben's join-the-dots musical philosophy and disregard for the trends of mainstream club-land have earned him an enthusiastic and loyal international following.
Ben's years as a presenter of the seminal ‘An Taobh Tuathail’ music show on national RTE Radio saw Jim Carroll of The Irish Times label him “the best music dj on RTE Raidió na Gaeltachta.”
As head music critic with Nos Magazine (www.nos.ie) since 2009, Ben always has a stash of upfront promos up his sleeve.
Expect a four-deck selection joining the dots between good-time party hip hop, reggae, latin dancefloor bangers, funk, disco, afro-boogie, drum 'n' bass and a twist of contemporary electronic and tropical bass styles!

"Before the invention of modern machinery, only bells and heavy artilleries were capable of producing noises that could compete with the thunderous roars of nature. In many ways, the fates of bells and cannons are inexorably intertwined: since they are made out of essentially the same materials, in times of war bells would be confiscated and melted down to create cannons and rifles. When the war was over, bells were then recast out of surplus cannons and weapons. The auditory coverage of bells defines territories, separating one community from another along cultural, religious, or ideological fault lines. Bells also connect individuals. When great care is taken in the tuning of bells, the purity of tone and fullness of volume become sources of collective pride. The abduction of bells on the other hand – often involving violent conflicts – aroused fierce animosities, and individual’s sense of belonging is greatly disturbed by such events." TRIPS: We have also organised four trips to Africa - Bamako, Mali (2006), Kinshasa, DRC (2007),  Lagos, Nigeria (2008) and Bamako, Mali (2013). This last trip resulted in the recording of "Africa Express Presents: Maison Des Jeunes", a collaborative album featuring artists such as Brian Eno, Ghostpoet, Songhoy Blues, Damon Albarn, Lobi Traoré Band, Bijou and many more.
