It is this significant developed style that affirms his position as a cutting-edge artist who blurs pre-ordained genre boundaries with an expansive trademark sound.

A scholar of dance music contributes a long-overdue FACT mix.

Best known for his work as DMX Krew - though he possesses a small army of other aliases, including Computor Rockers, House of Breaks and, erm, Bass Potato - Ed Upton has been a force for good in the dance music world since the mid-1990s. As well as releasing countless singles and albums, mostly on Rephlex Records and his own Breakin' label, his discontinued podcast series was an invaluable source of information and inspiration, he was recently picked as one of FACT's 100 Underrated DJs, and he's even an excellent writer when he gets the time.

In short, the man's an inspiration, and with a new album Shape Shifting Shaman out this year, the time seemed right for Ed to finally step up on our mix series. Although his musical knowledge spans everything from early hip-hop to latterday grime, his FACT mix draws exclusively from his own productions, showcasing the music right at the heart of what he does: that axis of acid, electro and classic techno.

After 3 hugely successful singles, veteran Spanish producer, Tensal will deliver his first full length later this year on Soma. As we build toward this momentous occasion, four hard hitting and idiosyncratic tracks come courtesy of Tensal as he drops The Judgement EP.

Marenga opens the EP in perfect Tensal style. A unique and well constructed sequence sits atop pervasive kicks, utilising subtle vocals and layered percussion to work the groove. 1 9 9 4 O N harks to tougher times with huge broken kick patterns, twisted synths elements and a darker vibe throughout. Things get deeper and more tripped out with Fano. Here, a more hypnotised & narcotic feeling is in effect with percussive and synth elements washing in and out of the mix whilst still retaining a solid drive. Delafix closes out the EP bringing together Tensal’s creative range under one track. The hypnotic tripped out vibe is prevalent throughout as vigorous drum workouts keep things at a fairly fast pace. 

Tensal in undeniably one of modern Techno’s most well respected and innovative producers and one that continues to add to his already prodigious catalogue.

Molten Moods releases another finely curated various artists record with tracks by Skee Mask, Kessel Vale, Jonas Yamer and Konrad Wehrmeister. Kessel Vales opening track "Voguing Geisha" is an unconventional breakbeat masterpiece following his sense of harmony and rhythm already shown through previous releases on Tanstaafl Records and Rhythm Nation. As the track unfolds it reveals musical storytelling by integrating a technoid polyrhythmic loop structure into melodic synth figures, slowly deconstructing in the end. Skee Mask collaborated with Molten Moods labelhead and Carl Gari member Jonas Yamer on "Fanta Ocean", it being the first release outside of his Ilian Tape homebase. The outcome is a moody IDM piece with cinematic qualities, complex but soothing. The B-Side begins with "Xenomorph" by Konrad Wehrmeister, who is known by his releases on Public Possession and SVS Records. This trancy yet distorted and detailed electro banger surely takes on the role of the records dancefloor highlight. The closing track "Insgeheim" is delivered by Molten Moods head honcho Jonas Yamer. Here groovy kicks, distorted chords and a psychedelic pad are woven into one compelling 10 am techno track. The common thread of Molten Moods 4 is four young Munich artists going on a joint trip into idiosyncratic electronic music. The resulting tracks intertwine as one modern and diverse techno record. Out on 12" vinyl and wav by the end of March 2018. Mastered by Manmade. In the tradition of Molten Moods' cost-conscious design strategies by Paul Bernhard, the record comes with a xeroxed low budget sticker set.
