Colombian DJ and producer, Aleja Sanchez is the beautiful mind behind our 33rd podcast. Someone who is in the driving seat of the Colombian techno scene, with increasing recognition on an international scale, her ever-growing discography of consistently outstanding releases and remixes play testament to her skills and creative hunger as an artist. A lifelong musician and composer, NYC-based @djauspex deals in dark, metallic sounds and dance floors driven to bedlam. He plays regularly in Brooklyn's underground scene, including Unter, Bound, Lost Soul Enterprises and Aphotic and he has recently launched his own event series entitled Dominion, dedicated to the darker side of techno with an open-minded sensibility. Non-Print label head and producer  Głós wants to create something outside of the conforming realm of Techno, and he showcases just that in this week's Global Vibe Radio mix. 

Głós has already reinvented his early work through his latest album, and his lucid yet on-point productions continue to reveal a rarefied character.

Głós has made a point out of not following the sometimes linear Techno patterns with his artistry. He comes from a band-focused rock environment and runs his own label, arranged to be a wildly experimental project. Głós (pronounced ‘Gwos’) is also in several ways a close contributor to the Ressort Imprint label, founded by fellow producer Ekserd, since its start in 2013, already then having left his native Poland to become a Berlin citizen. The label website informs you that ‘‘Ressort’ is a German synonym for a journalistic or administrative department’, and that their specific expertise is the dance floor. Ressort Imprint has released several of Głós’ productions and features other regulars such as Array Access, Border One and The Plant Worker—as well as remixes by Cassegrain, Evigt Mörker and Pfirter. 

Głós’ new platform, his very own label Non-Print, released his debut album ‘Fem’ in September 2018, marking the exact five year anniversary date of his first EP, ‘There Is No One Like You’ (Ressort Imprint, 2013). The producer describes it as ‘a collection of re-works as well as new material without any creative limitations’. ‘Fem’ is presented as one continuous mix—with each of the tracks being available in their own individual entity.

As a producer and performer, Głós’ background, which is a very hands-on analogue way of working—recording for example distorted keyboards and guitars—continues to influence his music. The industrial rawness of these elements are still present in his Techno, only now existing mantled by a softer drone and ambient-type of layer. Głós portrays cinematic scenes in his music. You are surely guided by the kick-drum, but the productions are spatial—distant rave signals and voices echo in a fantasy-like landscape. His live performances are often of a hybrid of his own work and others. 

The Techno here is pure Głós, but in various parts he manipulates selected Ambient pieces, making them his own for his distinctive shows. Again a situation where Głós’ live band-background plays a big part.

‘Music For Sleepovers’ and ‘Music For The Morning After’ are the Berliner's latest two albums with a playtime of about four hours that were released as a double-feature on Głós’ own Non-Print. Fresh off the press in 2020 is the latest EP ‘Psalms’ on Berlin-based imprint Escapism, featuring three of Głós’ more up-beat productions made for the dance floor.

Rubidium’s current take on techno is heavy and dense. Her sound can vary from driving to hypnotic, experimental to atmospheric, with an occasional dip into an ambient realm. She is fond of tension, creative sound design and exploring darker themes in her sets. Her tracks can be found on the From 0-1, Webuildmachines, Subspec and Anode labels, with more on the way. In early 2018 she launched 'Konstruct', a monthly Techno event at Underground SF in San Francisco with fellow artist, JX-216, showcasing talent from across North America and beyond.

Formerly known as Milkplant, JX-216 is a new alias developed by veteran San Francisco Techno DJ/Producer, Justin William Pennell. Schooled in the Midwest and developed on the West Coast, his work encompasses well over 30 years of combined DJ/production experience, and over 10 years of record label management. In 2008, he began the internationally recognized label, From 0-1 with fellow artist Sone. His newly updated live pa debuted at the 2018 Droid and Blank Code Interface/Scene official Movement Festival event at The Works in Detroit; alongside Kr!z, DJ Hyperactive, Vril, Phase, Sophia Saze, and others. He’s already had releases signed to Sleaze Records, BEK Audio, Impact Mechanics, TMM, SUB_tl, Ascetic Ltd., Rheostatus among others.

“In the world of techno DJs and producers, there are some people who get it, and then there are some who don’t. It’s quite obvious that when listening to Mojave’s sets and productions, that there’s a deep and fundamental understanding of the mechanics of techno and electronic music. If you’re to understand Mojave’s upbringing listening to hard underground music and you pin it up alongside a trained ear with a strong foundation in music theory and history, it’s easy to see why. Mojave’s music comes from a very informed place and when you listen to her selections everything has an interaction and each part of the music is considered on its own. From tonal characteristics, rhythm, pitch, to that essential ill groove that most people seem to gloss over these days, she has it nailed down. Mojave’s musical choices, like all good techno, just make good sense, with function and flow down to every nuance.”
