"Politically motivated globetrotting singer-songwriter Bruce Cockburn. It’s “Call it Democracy”, a song as taken from his 1986 album World Of Wonders.
Cockburn had spent the 1980s making albums and writing songs while also making personal trips to points on the map where the negative effects of Western economic policy was making the most impact in that era. The World Bank and the International Monetary Fund continued their “aid” to Third World countries, lending them the funds to manage their economies effectively (read: in line with Western corporate agendas) in exchange for turning over their right to self determination in support of private interests. This was, and is today, generally done by way of huge rates of interest on loans that are designed to never be paid off. Certain people might say this is nothing less than economic imperialism. 
It helps that he had direct experience with the effects of what he’s singing about, traveling to where the effects could be felt the most personally. Bruce Cockburn has written about this kind of political and economic maneuvering for a good chunk of his career by now, doing just that. All the while, he’s made music that is noted for its dynamism, high levels of musicianship, and for its value as pure performance while doing so, never letting a message get in the way of the art.
That’s what is more than evident here on this tune, a song driven by his machine gun stream of lyrical protest that touches on dirty deals with tin pot leaders, the machinations of big business, the poor cast aside, and lots of money to be made at their expense. But, it’s the rhythm of those words and the musical drive behind them that makes this song sing. The lyrics are less the sermon, and is almost like a percussion line on this song. Cockburn’s guitar solo weeps with bitter anger at a world gone wrong, as wondrous as it is. This is an important thread to follow in his music, particularly from the early ’80s and into the ’90s; that a sense of outrage at the world is fed by single moments of profundity and well-being, contrasted with the bigger picture of injustice and suffering.
With that understood, this song demonstrates another aspect of Cockburn’s approach to songwriting, too. By this time in his career, the quasi-mysticism undercurrents to his writing had taken on some pretty strident political characteristics. The single observations of beauty and transcendence which informed his early work are still there. But, they are put into a relevant context to what’s external to them. His interest in spirituality and his sociopolitical impulses are often cited as the two poles in Cockburn’s music in general. But, I don’t really see them as poles so much as I used to, being a pretty long-term Cockburn fan by now. The dichotomies between politics and spirituality, and between nature and civilization are the engine of his creative output. They are inextricable elements of his work.
In this song, the lines “The only response to the deification of tyranny by so-called developed nations/Idolatry of ideology” certainly bears this out. With this song, we get the language of both the spiritual and the political, and the veil between the two are lifted; “deification”, “tyranny”, “idolatry”, “ideology”. This is all to say that Cockburn is not just a political writer for politics sake. A song as strident as this one could not have been written if Cockburn didn’t have some vision for a better world, at least partially informed by a conflicting worldview to that of the “dirty MFs” mentioned in the song. After all, the album off of which this song comes is called World Of Wonders, with many other songs celebrating the delicate beauty of the world in its fine details, balanced against the hardships which happen in it. “Call It Democracy” is not a cynical song, even if it’s an angry one."  This song began as a musical letter written, composed, and sung by Carl to Eclectic Collective. Carl and Josh had been sniffing around each other's pages, admiring each other's work and collaborators. So Carl reached out with this friendly, uplifting song, as a gift to the band. 
  Ken was first in line, adding his awesome, driving drums to give us a heartbeat to build upon. Josh came along next and completed the rhythm section with his trusty four-string fretless bass. Stephen was next up to bat, adding his dynamic raspy guitar, which almost sounds like an electrified fiddle. Next up, Mark followed with his trippy synth and powerful strings to add to Carl's original composition. 

  We had it pretty much done sounding, but wanted to spice it up a bit, so we came up with the idea for a coda. Josh added his bass and synth for it, and Tez came up with the thrilling guitar part of it, as well. Tez also added the thrilling guitar intro, too. 
  Once it was in the can, we asked Tez to mix and produce it for us, which he did in his always expert fashion.

  This is the first song EC has done with Carl, but we know it won't be the last. We all admire him for his creativity, proficiency, and prolificacy. His page is worth a stroll, too, as it contains a lot of gems.

  We hope you enjoy listening to this as much as we enjoyed creating it.

"I Just Can't Live Without You" (Instrumental)

First of all, I would like to wish a happy springtime to all of my fantastic friends here on SoundCloud!  

Without further ado, here is the full instrumental version of a short demo song I made on September 5, 2024. Originally this tune came to me when thinking about the chords and progressions in my earlier song "Peace".

This song was made, played and recorded by me as MIDI and with e.g. the following instruments and sounds: Yamaha Montage 8 (TX816 Electric Piano), Spectrasonics Keyscape (Roland MKS-20 EP sound), Arturia Jup-8 V (Horns), Arturia Synthx V, UVI Ultramini & Arturia Mini-V (Minimoog bass sound), Arturia JUN-6V (the "55 Pop Corn" sound, cf. Juno-6 Synthesizer), Native Instruments Session Guitarist - Electric Mint; and other sounds from the UVI SonicPass VST library including UVI PX Memories (cf. Memorymoog mod), UV-XXX (from the UVI "OB Legacy", horns & the brass sound), UVX-10P (cf. Roland JX-10, the flute sound) and Marcato Strings (from UVI Emulation II). The drums come from Native Instruments Abbey Roads 1980s Drummer, layered with the fantastic Simmons SDS 5 style kick & snare drums from UVI Beatbox Anthology 2.  

Recorded, edited and mixed in Cubase Pro 14, with some significant help from iZotope Neutron. Mastered in Cubase Pro with Ozone 11.

In this song, I say the phrase, "it's my truth", a popular phrase being said by everyone these days. It actually drives me crazy sometimes hearing that, yet I sang it that way.. Just remember this, as you walk through this life: "Jesus said I am the Way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." John 14:6.  Not my words, His. This is the only truth that matters. It's simple. There's no "but"..You either believe who He says He is or you don't. Please turn away from things that are keeping you from having a relationship with Christ and trust in Him alone to save you. We all broke Gods Moral Law (the 10 commandments),and we've all earned the wages of death  because of that. but the good news is Jesus paid the fine so we can have eternal life.  Ponder on that verse and let the Holy Spirit speak to you about it.. Anyway, I'm praying for everyone that listen to these songs and hoping that they will bring you closer to the King of Kings!
