In memory of Otto Rockener…

The world and the global Ecstatic Dance community have lost a wonderful man due to an unfortunate bike accident. Daniela and their very-soon-to-be-born child have lost a husband and a father, in the most challenging time one could imagine.

On her trips between Europe and Brazil Daniela has been generously organizing the Ecstatic Dance movement in Brasilia, her hometown. I had an honour to play for Daniela and her people a couple of times. The last one took place in November 2021, soon after Otto had come on a trip from Holland to join and support his wonderful partner. Little we knew that a new life had been conceived around the time…

The session I am sharing is my little worship to this wonderful man. It was a real fun that day. We all came back from our trips to the magical lands of Chapada Dos Veadeiros. We were ecstatic and delighted. We all loved the music, the dance, the community. Otto was approaching everyone on the dance floor, one by one, tearing off the shyness, provoking liberation, sharing his joy. This is the image of Otto I will now carry with me. A smiling soul who loved people and life. A generous man who was always there to help and support. His spark was contagious, his presence was grounding and inspiring.
