“Tale Of The Phoenix” was written with the purpose of expressing the need for evolvement and to mark the completion of a journey taken so far. It simultaneously marks the ending of an era and the beginning of a new one. 

Based on the basic elements that shape up mononome’s sound, multiple drum break layers, heavy bass lines, melodic brass and vocals get tied together in order to create a nostalgic trip through groove. 

The cycle has closed. 

Every end is a new beginning. Like a phoenix from the ashes, you shall rise to be reborn once again.

With his second EP, ‘A Thousand Secrets’, Apanemic creates a mosaic of various sounds, reviving the music aesthetics in 60s-70s culture of Greece. Nostalgia clashes with fresh musical paths, elements that entwine together progressively as the EP unfolds, imitating the changing feelings of two lovers. Each track is part of a story. Each title matches the appropriate lyric from the original song sampled. Four tracks, a thousand secrets. A vicious circle as a foundation of a relationship.

The project truly resembles a crate digging exercise, since it focuses on records that have spent decades being out of the radar. To achieve this, Apanemic has used samples exclusively derived from the original vinyl copies, 33 and 45 rpm., from 50s to late 70s. Αbout 48 different vinyl records were utilized for the whole project.

Mononome is a musician/producer hailing from Thessaloniki, Greece.
Releasing music under the moniker since 2011, he soon accomplished to become one of the key figures of his generation within the European beat-producing scene.

Starting off with sampling, and presently based on a mixture of it along with live instrumentation and electronics, Mononome managed to create a characteristic sound, blurring the lines between future and old school.

His breakthrough album “Come Close” released in 2012 led to multiple tours across Europe, playing festivals and venues sharing the stage with the likes of Wax Tailor, Chinese Man, Thievery Corporation, Nightmares On Wax, DJ Krush, Ras G and Gramatik.

His work has been praised and received airplay by radio stations such as L.A.-based “KCRW”, Paris-based “NOVA” and “Le Mellotron” and has been featured on the “BandCamp Daily” column of the renowned platform.
