The seventh episode of the Based On Misunderstanding series is a true show-stopper! Last summer the ultra hot duo Manhooker (Tomasz - Guiddo' Switala and Sebastian - Mavin' Magassouba) hooked up in their studio with Snax (Paul Bonomo and 1/2 of Captain Comatose) to crank out some new jams; the first being this veritable late summer hit, 'Cloud 9.' Their first 12inch on Ostgut Ton caused such a burst of enthusiasm, and the hype will only be fueled with this release. This is pop music at its best with lots of soul for the more sophisticated dance floors.

We can't think of a more appropriate remixer for this sensitive tune than Justus Köhncke. The Cologne based producer aims more directly to the club, but doesn't take the soul nor Snax' captivating synth solo out of the track. It's another magnum opus in Köhnckes already superior portfolio of remixes.

On the flipside we got a 'Special Deal.' Here you can hear Snax' presence even more boldly as his affection for 80's electro-funk meets the adorable soul of Mavin's voice. Would 'Cloud 9' not already be a stupendous stand-out track, you'd have to speak of 'Deal' as the definite sure shot. Airplay guaranteed!

For the - M1 Space Dub' version Manhooker used the legendary Patch #17, Organ 2 of the Korg M-1 (of Robin S' - Show Me Love' fame from 1990), spreading this way some magic dust on the track to make it even deeper.

And then we have one of the best DJs from Brazil added to the game. Marcio Vermelho from Sao Paolo is widely known by now across the borders of South America for his stylistically confindent mix of Nu Disco, Boogie, Funk and sentimental house. This right here is one of his first official remixes but it won't be his last one, that's for sure!

Vampires & Informers is back for more blood, remastered with new versions and a megamix. Subatomic Sound (NYC) teams up with People’s Records (Kingston, JA) for the first in a series of releases bringing together top Jamaican artists with top electronic producers worldwide. Kicking off with an extra loud bang, is the “Vampires & Informers” release, a rare look at Elephant Man, one of the world’s top dancehall artists, vocally delivering a ferocious portrait of Jamaica’s "vampire" politicians, "bloodsucking" informers, and the "military society" of the ghetto youths. 

Originally a top selling limited edition 7" vinyl recorded with Sly & Robbie back at Kingston’s Black Scorpio studios, here is “Vampires & Informers” resurrected and completely re-imagined with producers Subatomic Sound System, Dubblestandart, Stereotyp, Liondub, Ming (of Ming&FS), David Last, Taal Mala & Kush Arora just in time for today's vampire-loving, blood-thirsting, electronic-obsessed youths to lose their minds at raves, political protests, revolutionary activities, block parties and dancehalls around the globe.

Appropriately nicknamed “The Energy God”, Elephant Man delivers his signature hyper-charged style over completely unexpected riddims that deftly pair the dancehall king with sounds like bass blasting dubstep, dirty barefoot dancehall, future roots reggae, and even dub. 

The cover art by artist Angelo Gastelum plays tongue in cheek on the hyper-real blood splatter of Japanese horror films and the latest first person shooter video games, a reverent update to the comic book, scary movie style used on classic dub reggae albums by the likes of Scientist.

In the bustling world of instrumental grime, Mr. Mitch’s ‘Peace Dub’ phenomenon - initially a concept aimed squarely at flipping grime’s ‘war dub’ complex on it’s head - has fast become a reputable sub-genre all of it’s own. With a series of his own peace edits garnering plenty of recognition online over the course of 2014, Mitch has enlisted a trio of new-school producers to assist him in re-contextualising four unconventional classics and with it, christen a new series of peace-themed white label 12”s. 

Simply titled PEACE001, Mitch is joined by Gobstopper signees Strict Face and Loom, as well as elusive beat-making trio Silk Road Assassins on the label’s first ever physical record - a body of work that takes instrumental grime even further into unchartered territory. Kicking off with the brooding heartache of Mitch’s fuzzy, emotionally charged re-rub of Dru Hill’s ‘How Deep Is Your Love’, there’s also space for Strict Face to turn an icier, washed-out hand to the peace aesthetic on ‘Alice’ - his beautifully mellow, minimalist rework of Alice Deejay classic ‘Better Off Alone’. 

Latest signee Loom opts to take a deconstructionist route through Kate Bush’s ‘Running Up That Hill’ as glitchy melodies, ushered reverb and pitched-up vocal loops meet harsh, industrial sampling in unerringly dystopian collision of ideas, whilst Silk Road Assassins sign off with their take on T-Pain’s ‘Im Sprung’. Trickling, iced-out melodies and pitched-down vocals are laid over dark, menacing bass rumbles in a tribute to the sound that has already earmarked the trio as refreshingly slick sound designers.

We thought a cover would be a good idea and since we both love Harvest Moon we decided to give it a try. It's super intimidating to cover Neil Young so we tried to make it a lot different, just so we didn't have to "compete" with the master.

Halogenix has risen to fame via a series of well executed releases that have been crafted with a maturity beyond his years and thus it was only a matter of time before Headz picked him up for a project.

The All Blue EP is a series of tracks that have all the hallmarks of Halogenix’ production- soulful and introspective with enough muscle to work out of context as well as in. The title track All Blue features the talents of UK jazz legend Cleveland Watkiss, Beyond The Bounds follows with midrange accents and soulful flourishes. Shank flips the EP on its head with a pure, potent hard to contain funk. Shores initially caught the ears of Lenzman and it’s easy to see why. Paper Swords closes the EP off, the final scene for the All Blue journey. The release is an addictive one and will no doubt do much to confirm Halogenix as the best in his field.

The man known as lil’dave is a Philadelphia-based audio tastemaker who has made a name for himself by exposing people to soulful music in all it’s forms. Although his roots are in hip-hop, he is most widely known for his electronic escapades through house, broken beat, brazilia, acid jazz, funk and UK-inspired soul and rare groove. Through these genres, lil’dave defines his signature sound.

lil’dave is a member of the highly respected DJ/production crew Illvibe Collective, who has released two solid albums and has thrown the legendary Bodyrock party for over 15 years.. He has been broadcasting for 2 decades on radio station WKDU 91.7FM, where he currently hosts the internationally known Eavesdrop Radio along with DJ Junior. As a recording artist, he has released music as lil’dave, Dali, with Illvibe Collective, and under his electronic alias, Osage, for record labels such as Record Breakin’ Music, Soulspazm, BBE Records, Tru Thoughts, Young Robots, Bastard Jazz, Luvbug, Exadoria and Swedish Brandy. In his relationship with the Record Breakin’ Music label he wears many hats, such as recording artist, remixer, artist development advisor, and graphic designer. He has worked with and remixed a diverse range of artists such as Selah Sue, J Cole, RJD2’s Icebird project, Lady Alma Ryat, Apt One, Joy Jones, Captain Planet, John Robinson, Foremost Poets, Laura Mvula, and more.

Those of you paying attention (or even those of you with your fingers in your ears - we've been shouting about it for months now!) will have heard our ninth release on Ransom Note Records - the magnificent summertime afrobeats smash hit 'I Like Your Girlfriend' by Bryte and Gafacci. This Ghanaian word-of-mouth classic has been knocking about as a poor quality video rip for a while now, but we're ensuring it finally gets the 12" release it deserves.

When we started thinking about remix duties, we knew we had to get our brother Bawrut to step up to the plate for this one, and of course he didn't disappoint. His triumphant, tropical acid rework is centred on a funky bassline which slithers around Bryte's catchy vocals. Everything we love all in one place.

Morena Leraba is a Mosotho musician and shepherd from of Ha-Mojela in Mafeteng district, located south of Lesotho's capital Maseru. Leraba’s music (especially lyrics) is deeply rooted in Lesotho's traditional music, poetry, and it’s sub-genre, Famo, which was introduced as early as the 1920s when Basotho men were migrant workers in South African mines. However, the approach in the beat is significantly different as it hurls almost everything from Electro, Electronica, Afro-House, Folk, and Hip-Hop.

Leraba made his first appearance on the international scene in 2014 when he was featured in a song "Do You Know Know Lesotho" by a Cape Town/German band, The Freerangers. Carl McMillan, a filmmaker based in Lesotho was introduced to Leraba in the village of Ha-Nchela, in Berea district (where he's still based as a shepherd) and spotted his talent then. During the same time, he introduced Leraba to the band (friends he studied with in Cape Town); hence, did collaboration on their song while visiting Lesotho.

From there, Leraba released his first single, Bojete (Produced by Fritz Holscher, Germany) that got the attention of Brooklyn-based producer, Kashaka; hence, followed another collaboration, "Lithebera" and was premiered by Okayafrica in New York...
