Hyraceum, also known as Africa Stone, is an aromatic raw material used in antique perfumery.

This substance is actually the petrified, rock-like excrement formed from the urine of hyraxes. Hyrax urine starts as a jelly-like substance, and these creatures consistently use the same spot to urinate.

In perfumery, very old, fossilized, dry, and stone-heavy Hyraceum is used, typically hundreds or even thousands of years old. It imparts an animalistic, sensual, and deep note reminiscent of musk, civet, castoreum, tobacco, and agarwood. Earthy, rich, and resinous, Hyraceum is obtained by powdering the raw material and fusing it with pure, organic, non-denatured alcohol. Importantly, no animals are harmed in the production of this material.
