Disquiet Junto Project 0592: Better Than One 
The Assignment: Record the second third of an asynchronous trio.. More info on Disquiet Junto: http://disquiet.com/0592

Inspired by @alyceobvious composition (https://soundcloud.com/alyceobvious/abstraction-cactus-flower) I decided to continue exploring Georgia O’Keeffe’s Radical Abstraction. 
I was inspired by the painting “The Beyond” (1972 - https://learn.ncartmuseum.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/OKeeffe_The-Beyond-1024x772.jpg) and a quote:
“The color […] had little to do with what I’d seen. The color grew as I painted”. (from the lecture www.okeeffemuseum.org/georgia-okeeff…l-abstraction/)

I tried to apply the same concept to time, playing and painting bigger spaces every time, tracing a line between my previous submission disquiet0591) and this one. After the accident I have to rebuild a new relationship with my body: this time I worked with breathing and feeling space-time oscillations in my legs, my ankles, my shoulders and let the flow be my metronome. It was fun dancing with my double bass again, after a long time, it felt like meditation or one of the delicate and at the same time intense paintings of O'Keeffe.

At bar 6 I start playing an ascending phrase with the notes F#, C#, F, D#, length 1 bar 50bpm. I then leave a full bar of silence and there starts the growing process, stretching spaces by adding eight note silences after every repetition of the musical fragment.
I doubled on fretless bass with a bit of chorus and then sprinkled both basses in a bit of convolution reverb. It was very interesting to observe the discrepancies and similarities of time and body-feeling with the two instruments, as well as phasing and subtle time differences that this process creates.

Hi, took Stream halF numbereD [disquiet0591] 85bpM by halF unusuaL | Listen online for free on SoundCloud
by @half-unusual added a synth jam with a bass preset on Z3Ta, and a second track of the same preset using the arpeggiator.

Then added some textures with an instrument that was offered to me called “Aperture - Cassette Symphony” and never used, tried it here just for testing purposes.
Hope there’s still room for a 3rd performer.

Two Days a Week - disquiet0592 with LazenbeeIndustries

For the second part of the trio I added a track to two contributions of the first round: Dandante’s poem and Maybe Going Somewhere by He_Nu_Ri

For both, I added one layer of Plaits using various engines. For the poem, I also used the drum engines of Plaits to add a beat. Maybe going somewhere still is 96 BPM, D Major. The Poem is now 116 BPM and also D Major.

Disquiet0592 - Dandante

The city of Boulder, Colorado performs monthly tests of its public warning system. I recorded the May 4, 2020 test from about two miles outside the city. The sounds are distant, but still loud enough to cause concern if one were not expecting the test.

The recording starts with a barely audible spoken announcement "This is a warning system test", overwhelmed by sounds of birds, dog walkers and local automobile traffic. After a short delay, the sirens rise in pitch and seem to play sustained chords for a few minutes. The birds continue chittering, unconcerned by the sirens in the distance. After the sirens drop, the final spoken announcement "This is a warning system test" is repeated a number of times as the test ends. The test lasts nearly five minutes.

I heard the warning system during a real emergency in September 2013.  "Flooding in progress, do not cross Boulder Creek" or words to that effect were repeated along with the sirens for an extended period of time. The danger was real. Hopefully some lives were saved by the warning system.
