Following the release of debut single ‘Underwater Dreaming’ in 2020, Sons Of The Sun and BBE Music proudly present a stunning pair of remixes by UK Afro-House pioneer Zepherin Saint and Houston duo Beanz N Kornbread.

Founder of Tribe Records and House producer extraordinaire Zepherin Saint turns in a typically smooth and soulful rework of ‘Underwater Dreaming’, completely reinventing the track with a fresh chord structure and inventive use of the original’s layered backing vocals. The silky instrumental version of the remix is also included, especially for the deeper heads.

Donald Johnson & Kenneth Roy aka Beanz N Kornbread met as keyboard players in a local Texas church and have been working together ever since, writing and producing for Z-Ro, Paul Wall, Mac Miller, George Clinton, Slim Thug, Le$ and Snoop Dogg to name but a few. Johnson also plays drums in high-flying funk outfit Khruangbin. The pair’s chilled, yet bouncy, ‘Nawfside’ remix pays tribute to the pair’s shared North Houston upbringing in the 80’s with a sonic aesthetic they describe as “reminiscent of the low fidelity vinyl/cassette/VHS tape sound of its time”.

Sons of the Sun is a collaboration between American singer-songwriter JTronius and British producer Maverick Quest, featuring an inspired selection of luminary guests and musicians. Delivered remotely, the ingenious pair sent files back and forth between Texas and South East London to create their shared vision for the project. Remarkably, the duo has yet to meet in person. Their eponymous debut album is slated for release in June 2021 on BBE Music.

The Far Out Beat Tape brings together some of the finest forays into beat-driven electronic music from the label’s extensive back catalogue. From classics to rarities, of varying tempos and styles, this mixtape eliminates binary genre classification and carves out a place for Brazil on the map of the global beat diaspora.
When celebrated digger, DJ and Brazilian music connoisseur Joe Davis set up Far Out Recordings in 1994, it was an incredibly exciting time for dance music in the UK. House, techno and rave were splintering off into varying directions, jungle was blowing up and the future was wide open. While Far Out may be more widely known for its modern day iterations of MPB, jazz and samba, it has always kept itself firmly on the cutting edge of electronic music as this release amply demonstrates.
Far Out entered the scene with an unparalleled devotion to the music of Brazil’s past and present, but always with a keen eye on the future of UK dance, sensing a lucrative forward path in the marriage of the two which in many ways was an early precursor to the forward thinking blends of rugged dance sounds and organic, groove anchored jazz-funk, fusion and samba that was characteristic of Masters At Work’s Nuyorican Soul project and later the West London based Broken Beat movement. 
This compilation serves as both a handy sampler and an overview of a myriad of sounds and styles that Far Out has contributed to the worlds of broken beat, hip-hop and beyond. From the intrepid genre-leaping explorations of pioneering veterans Mark Pritchard, IG Culture and 4Hero to alternative hip-hop legend Peanut Butter Wolf to young up-and-comer Ben Hauke, the full spectrum is represented here. 
Simone Seritella’s atmospheric groover ‘Sambalanco’, originally released on Solaria, a subsidiary of Far Out, kicks off proceedings, a rare gem and one that even the label’s most avid followers may be unfamiliar with. On a broken tip, IG Culture’s remix of legendary Azymuth bassist Alex Malheiros’ ‘The Wave’ which marries the worlds of broken beat, hip hop with the sounds of Brazil to stunning effect, while 4hero’s remix of Friends From Rio’s ‘Vera Cruz’ is an exemplary exercise in their uniquely inventive and fearless excursions in grooving funk.
The deeper, more cerebral fare of ‘Lullaby’ and ‘Without You’ come courtesy of Far Out stalwart Troubleman – one of the many guises of Mark Prichard whose overwhelmingly prolific output, spanning the worlds of hip-hop, techno, jungle, funk, dubstep and onward into the experimental dance stratosphere, is close to peerless. Another true dance music original, Theo Parrish, turns in a typically seductive left-field house stepper with his remix of the Far Out Monster Disco Orchestra’s ‘Keep Believing’. Meanwhile, the perpetually funky Quantic’s sunny reworking of Sabrina Malheiros’ ‘Passa’ is a bass heavy RnB banger.  
The tape culminates with remixes of two of Brazil’s most celebrated artists, Azymuth and Marcos Valle. The former’s ‘Manha’ receives a subtle reworking from Stones Throw head honcho Peanut Butter Wolf, while Budgie transforms Valle’s ‘1975’, bringing the tracks futuristic synths to the fore to create a moody late-night boogie classic
Together, the selections on this release provides listeners with the diverse flavours from Far Out’s vital contributions to the global network of beats and forward-thinking groove music that the label has been and continues to be an integral part of.

Al Manfredi, born to a musical family of Italian immigrants in the small SoCal beach town of San Clemente, found regional success with his garage rock band Lost &amp; Found while he was still a teenager. The tragic deaths of two of the band’s members in the late 60s shook Manfredi to his core, and he gave up on the band scene completely, retreating to his family’s music store, and working on music in private, multi-tracking demos of growing prowess on primitive recording equipment.

In 1973 he chose six of his favorite songs and exactingly produced and recorded an album, which he custom-pressed in minute quantities. His dreams of securing a record deal faded, but he spent the rest of his life recording music, surfing, bringing children into the world, and battling alcohol and drug abuse.

This little-known West Coast rock masterpiece was rediscovered celebrated by Acid Archives founder Patrick Lundborg and others around the time that Manfredi died in 1995. This version of the album, overseen by Manfredi’s son, the hip hop producer Exile, and with Manfredi’s story told by Ugly Things’ founder Mike Stax, presents the complete package of an incredible lost and found artist. Contains the album, as originally issued, on side A with unreleased music on side B. Bonus 2nd LP – available only to subscribers – contains alternate takes, demo versions and the two, rare garage rock tracks from the solitary Lost &amp; Found 7" . Extensive, photo-filled booklet documents the history of the band, their mission, and their arc. Download card included, for WAV files, including bonus tracks not available on vinyl.

Music is My Sanctuary is proud to share the premiere of "Necktar" by Kahil El'Zabar's Spirit Groove ft. David Murray.

Taken from 'Spirit Groove', the latest album from legendary Chicago multi-percussionist & composer, Kahil El-Zabar. His second for Spiritmuse Records, following the Ethnic Heritage Ensemble’s excellent ‘Be Known: Ancient/Future/Music’ 2019 album, and an acclaimed world tour with two standout shows at London's Church of Sound.

Kahil El’Zabar’s ‘Spirit Groove’ is the latest musical inspiration from the spiritual jazz master, featuring the legendary tenor sax colossus, David Murray. El’Zabar and Murray first recorded together in ’89 and their collaborative efforts span over 4 decades of exceptional explorations in the varied realms of jazz, with ’Spirit Groove’ being the defining moment upon their incredible journey to meaningful, spiritual art.

‘Spirit Groove’ is an easy snapping combination of live and studio recordings in June 2019 in Chicago. Whether on tenor or bass clarinet, David Murray immerses the listener in the history of this music - hearing him playing with Kahil on "Necktar" you are immediately drawn into the fluidity of their communication. They are joined by two extraordinary US musicians, Emma Dayhuff (Herbie Hancock) on acoustic bass and Justin Dillard (Junius Paul Qt) on synth, organ & piano. 

According to Khahil, "In David’s "Necktar", we want folks to feel the power of faith when one truly loves". It was written for David’s new wife, Francesca Murray.

'Spirit Groove' is due to be released on June 12 on Spiritmuse Records on vinyl, CD and digital, and is available to pre-order now.
