Nationally adored Australian dance music producer Cassettes For Kids (Zak Degenhardt) has delivered his most thorough body of work to date, releasing EP Turpins Falls via Gallery Recs. Alongside the news, he’s announced he’ll be bringing the EP to life right across Australia and New Zealand throughout the next few months. 
 
Turpins Falls is a vast array of moods that ebbs and flows in energy, texture, power and emotion, wrapped in an archetypal, Cassettes For Kids glaze of hardware driven house music. Every track has its own unique deeply human feel and bounce, as evocative synths, swinging bass lines and driving, varied percussion layers fall effortlessly together, giving audiences an intimate insight into the mind of one of Australia’s most talented and prolific producers.
 
“As much as I wish this didn't have as much to do with the pandemic, so much of this was written during this period of my life and since then, I haven't made anything like the tracks on this EP,” Cassettes For Kids stated.
 
“This all made sense at the time. Tones and textures that all clicked then have ceased to happen again, yet I'm as proud as ever to have written as honest of a reflection of the frustration and lack of mental respite that I couldn't otherwise express, documented over these five tracks.”
 
Opening with I Was So, the atmospheric peak of the record. A track that boasts production prowess and confidence, it sees Zak lean heavily into groove and swing heavy house music for the first time. As I Was So closes with unadulterated bounce the title track arrives, Turpins Falls. Written while reflecting on a deeply intimate personal moment, the universal feeling of being blown away by context and the environment's intrinsic relationship to infatuation and love. As Zak reflected on the environmental awe of Turpins Falls in Kyneton, Victoria Turpins Falls featuring Nyla Hunter was born.

Straight out of Sligo, Ireland, Brame & Hamo have expertly produced some of the most effortless house music of the last few years. Following acclaimed releases on labels such as Dirt Crew and Heist, the duo now take full control with their debut release on a fresh, personal imprint, simply titled ‘Brame & Hamo’. 
B&H001, ‘Trants’, is a versatile three-tracker that expertly captures the light and shade of the duo’s production pallette. Opening the EP, title-track ‘Trants’ (say it aloud to trace the inspiration), provides a hugely satisfying denouement. Awash in a retro-futurist haze, flavours of early bleep techno, dusty drums and yes, outright trance flavours provide the ingredients for a euphoria-inducing trip that culminates in a melodic call to arms-in-the-air. Things get much tougher throughout ‘Hurt You’, which begins with an immediate strike of chunky percussion, jacking Chi-town rhythms and an unapologetically menacing organ line. As the requisite vocal sample delivers emotive threat, the mood only gets darker still, delivering something akin to an outsider house rendition of a lost Dance Mania cut. Finally, providing a soft landing with an early-doors on-the-floor heater, ‘Clarence’ lives up to it’s ‘Smooth Mix’ subtitle, as a lounging piano line gently gives way to vibrant sax and a soothing female vocal sample, while still maintaining a precise and irresistible groove for the club. Expanding seamlessly on their reputation as DJs and producers with an instinctive understanding of the genre, B&H001 is as soulful, tough and deeply satisfying of a house record as anything in Brame & Hamo’s already impressive musical repertoire. ‘Emotional Make-Up’, their debut single, lands on Ali Tillet’s Warm imprint, bringing with it the last rays of summer, as they jam out a feel good, end of the night, future house classic!

Australian hot property, Loods, follows up a well received single for the Classic label, with a remix and dub mix that accelerates the tempo and drops a hooky organ riff over its rolling beats.

Sensational artwork for the release comes courtesy of Bráulio Amado, the NYC based graphic designer who has produced stunning visuals in the past for artists such as Beck, Róisín Murphy, Frank Ocean and Robyn.

Between Goddard, Marr and Strauss, over three decades of music has poured from these musical minds, including releases on Strictly Rhythm, Emotive, DFA, Greco-Roman and Domino.
