Dez Williams' second Woodwork outing further frames his imaginative productions within a wide conceptual space encompassing several styles of deep electronic underground music. Expressive noisy synth riffs and soaked stabs lace their way through a series of jams which pull equally from modern and vintage varieties of techno, acid, house and electro. The resulting sound and feeling averts description or definition, yet there remains an absolute sense of lineage and vague familiarity in the midst of this set of explorative works.

From the quirky acid bass and melodic bleeps of the title track, 'hexentrik', through dub meditations invoked by 'screenshot', with the raw machine sound of 'formit' and enlightened pattern play central to 'nowtt', the EP winds its way toward the eastern pentatonic 'ohaguro' and the dramatic interstellar acid, electro-techno afterburner 'entangled data banks'. This collection offers up several mix-ready individual flavours that also serve an engaging chronicle heard start to finish.

With infamous raw power and sonic mayhem, Alavux brings a monster 4-track banger to the Woodwork agenda, enlisting two of the label's electro vanguard for remixes. 'Radio Astronomy' kicks off at full throttle and never lets up.

Buzzing and slicing from the off, 'Sun Burns' pounds its way through a relentless sequence of explosive percussion with an interjecting morse code style synth motif...hard breaks techno with incessant groove. 'Cosmic Rays' keeps right on going, leading directly into some repetitive FM distortion riffs and a pounding 909 snare assault. 'Micro Waves' continues in the same fashion, favouring an electro beat reviled by an onslaught of modulated noise hits and squealing fx. The title track puntuates the set with an unusual layer of vicious guitar work that doubles a scathing distorted synth drone.

Having also provided the guitar layer for 'Radio Astronomy', first up with its 'reach the stars revision' is Pablo Splice, whose melodic bleeps, clanks, and frantic bass patterns serve a cut out of Alavux's drones and beats for another electro context. Next up, it's LectrO cOd_E with a funkier rendition that sees some of the original parts subjected to vocoder treatments under cOd_E's familiar frantic breaks and electro chatter.

PREMIERE: Alavux - Radio Astronomy (LectrO cOd_E remix) [Woodwork Recordings]

Berlin producer, Random Alias, returns with a post-lockdown reflection that includes dance-floor fillers and sonic journeys in electro, techno and acid.

BOM002 explores the dichotomy of human existence that is monotonous conformity and search for freedom. This latest release from Random Alias, makes you want to move just as much as take a moment for reflection. With each track we’re presented with the iconic red pill/blue pill concept: Remain slaves to the control and automation of modern society? Or strive for freedom as we define it ourselves?

Automat opens side A with its smouldering bassline that at times becomes warped as the 5 minutes unfold. A dreamy synth line enters like a fragmented, existential thought. The kind that wakes you up in the dead of night or while you’re in the middle of a shower. The remix from iconic electro producer, DJ Overdose, takes the original to a darker place with a slower, aggressive synth. It’s a ‘Freakfest’ as Overdose defines it.

Side B starts with Nu Funk and its representation of simple efficiency. The track keeps it tight while retaining the free-spiritedness of funk. Its warm sounds take a more old school approach and are a call to retain an easier life free from fame, money and power to the single individual. While Night Drive closes the release with a rolling bass and pads that drive a progressive sound. At its core, the record takes the listener on a trip exploring sounds and styles and the timeless notion that change is the outcome of reflection.

UK electronic legend Carl Finlow makes his full debut on Avoidant Records (Soma Records electro sub label) with the clinical Engines Of Creation EP. Easily one of the most highly respected producers to come out of the UK, Carl has a discography going back over 20 years and spanning multiple genres. After his first outing the label as part of the ‘Defend Your Planet’ compilation, Carl drops 4 classic, superbly produced cuts of hi techno electro funk.

Take an interstellar trip with Reckless, a track that bounds through the the cosmos, radiating its high energy output.

S.L.E.T is a young collective of creative minds mainly focused on electronic music. With members coming from different backgrounds and finding a common ground in the dancefloor. We explore electro variations through events, podcasts series, and by releasing music. Our first release is a clear example of how we experience this genre. Fast and brutal at times, but also melancholic and adventurous.

Through 6 cuts, it navigates the vision of 3 of the members of the collective. Detroit influenced electronic sounds, with hints of 90’s breakbeat, hiphop, electro and spaced out sonic landscapes. A statement of what S.L.E.T. is, fun and nasty but never shallow.

Inspired by Aldous Huxley's dystopian science fiction novel 'Brave New World', Alva Recek's Soma EP traces its theme of social hierarchy and control... where a world government tries to prevent its people from thinking and speaking freely with the use of a legal drug that is provided daily. To maintain the stability of their forcefully engineered world, authorities encourage the constant consumption of the drug Soma, ensuring the population remains passive and soothed. In the lives of the citizens, if anything should feel wrong, they have Soma to block stressful situations such as pain, grief and anger, and yet the user is completely normal, oblivious to any sort of negative side effects. Soma, supplied in its various strengths, is the perfectly tailored distraction.

The Soma EP outlines characteristics of four hypothetical variations... the softness of the white variety, the moderate dose of yellow, leading to the stronger concentration of orange and finally the ultimate effect of Soma red.

Alva Recek's roots trace back to golden era 80s & 90s hip hop and rave culture, significant backdrops to her progression from a young rapper to a dedicated producer working in numerous genres.
With past collaborations in electronica, jazz fusion and hip hop, and a track recently released on Bass Agenda, Alva comes immersed legit deep in heady electro for this debut EP.
