Hello again! Welcome back to our synodically recurring mix series 'Styles'; a mix series aimed at showcasing unique styles and subgenres nestled amongst the broad landscape of electronic dance music. Digging deep into the depths of electronic dance music, we find ourselves at the common denominator of "low and slow." With our sixth episode, we will be delving into the depths of the subgenre know as Leftfield 140, courtesy of G.R.A. resident DJ, Symtek.

"Leftfield 140 is a style that refers quite literally to it's own name. In essence, it is a style of music that resides at 140 BPM, but strays from the more typical dubstep style that has dominated the tempo for the last 2 decades. With a contemporary rebirth in the early 2020's, Leftfield 140 tends to include a wide variety of influences from across the musical spectrum. ["Over the last few years, 140 has become a broad term that represents more than just dubstep. It stands for an entire culture of bass music influenced by dubstep, grime, and trap. As we cross the halfway point in our 2025 Styles journey, we circle back to Ep. 01 curator and GRA founding member Alejo. For this episode, he presents to us a tasteful 40 minute selection of tunes from the classic electronic subgenre known as Jungle. Whether you are unfamiliar with the genre or a seasoned raver from back in the good old days the 90s, this mix is sure to be a high energy treat. 

“Emerging from the urban landscapes of London in the early 1990s, jungle music was a fusion of various electronic styles, including breakbeat, hardcore, and reggae. Characterized by its frenetic breakbeats, heavy basslines, and chopped-up samples, jungle music captured the energy and diversity of the city's multicultural communities. One of the defining features of jungle music was its use of the "Amen break," a drum break sampled from the track "Amen, Brother" by The Winstons. This iconic breakbeat, with its rapid-fire snare drums and syncopated rhythms, became a cornerstone of jungle music, providing the backbone for countless tracks in the genre.”

Whitebear X Mumukshu- Pareidolia (LostinSound.org Exclusive)Forthcoming 'Dialectics EP'

First track made with ableton over the last few days, first attempt at mastering my own track as well! Mix/music feedback always welcome.  

I think using Live is helping me become a bit more detail orientated in the glitch side of things, hopefully the quality and intricacy will improve over time, it's not just the micro edits, making the switch to a different software has changed the way I approach mix downs, I'm trying to pay more attention to every tiny little detail in the mix as to make the fattest and cleanest sound possible. Hopefully one day I'll nail it!!
