Gorgeous song in every element. Such beautiful songwriting and a perfect ensemble realisation. Guitar and vocals are outstanding but every part is excellent.

Such an expression of freedom... spontaneous, alive and expressing the spirit of what true freedom is when you live it. As I've said before Gary, so wonderful to listen to music that not only speaks to me, but that reaches my heart as well.

Wow this really captures the time an era exceptionally well… and what a great composition!

Man, there's so much to dig in this track. Love yours and Steve's kick in at 1:06, real funky, you've got that skip beat vibe going on, really grooves brother. Bri's acoustic sounds lush,was that a 12 string?, sounds quite 'Chorus-y', Lovin' Katy's vox, Folky and fabulous. Backin' vox are all on the money, real smooth, trippy and psyched feel over all. Love it.

real pleasure to find another version...this is so lovely and haunting...was it recorded with the vinyl ? ( I should have bought it if I could...)...very cool performance in all positions...

Synopsis

Following unprecedented worldwide growth in human conflict, an emergency plenary session of the United Nations was convened late in 2023, tasked with finding new approaches to defuse global tension and ease conciliation. Recognising the abject failure of extant UN jurisdictions and powers, and in a radical restructuring of the international legal and security framework, that session established a new UN institution to sit alongside the International Court of Criminal Justice. The International Court of Moral Justice was formally incorporated into the UN Constitution on 1 January 2024.

The foundations of this infant organisation and those of the UN itself were shaken when it was revealed that the inaugural case to be heard by the ICMJ was to be a private prosecution brought by greed itself against the defendant, mankind’s innate sense of humanity.

In papers lodged with the court, the protagonist, Lord Mammon has asserted that the fundamental basis for human misery, the creation of discontent, thence envy and hence conflict, is to be found exclusively in false moral goodness and self-righteousness borne of a misplaced sense of benevolence. The human race survived and thrived, he states, not by moving at the pace of the slowest, or sharing resources with the weakest, but by taking and keeping, for the self alone, much more than is needed for basic subsistence, this being the singular route to strength, individual contentment and thus tolerance of others.

In reply, a broken and demoralised Lady Humanity has been compelled to present her own defence after failing to secure funding for a legal team to counter the advocates ranged in front of Lord Mammon. The case for the defence rests solely on the premise that good comes from within and cannot be created from nothing. So whilst she may try to bolster the moral cause in her work, she increasingly finds that the human souls she sees have no humanity in them whatsoever for her to strengthen, nothing to work with and as such, concedes that she has failed, but denounces the notion that it was for want of trying. Devoid of resources, supporters and allies of any kind she single handedly has held the fort against the self-perpetuating, self-reinforcing massed ranks of Mammon.

The Lord Chief Justice of the ICMJ along with his bench of associate judiciary adjourn proceedings to consider their findings and in the final act, return to deliver their verdict.

She also published one book of poetry with her sisters Charlotte and Anne titled Poems by Currer, Ellis and Acton Bell with her own poems finding regard as poetic genius.

As a very experienced and qualified practitioner, my brother Bri’s widow Sue has always been a believer in the homeopathic approach to life.  A vegan since her late teens, she truly walks the talk and has never been afraid to stand tall against the herd, no matter that this can often bring her into conflict with the mainstream.  Admittedly, I do not follow either of these creeds but it does have to be said that my own opinions aren’t exactly conventional either, so am a huge admirer of her courage to speak up for the things she considers right.  It takes strength and resolution to stand your ground when all around seem to be against you - and stand her ground she does. 

Sue is a true supporter of our music.  Always interested in what we are doing, her positive feedback is something that means a great deal to us.  Recently, she asked to listen to some of our more recent songs and was particularly taken with ‘My Atheist Angels’, since it deals with issues that are very close to my heart.  As we chatted, she surprised me by asking if I’d ever consider writing a song that represented her feelings and life choices, something I’d never been asked before.  

For me, the writing process is never straightforward because songs most often appear completely out of the ether.  I hardly ever make straightforward choices about them, allowing grains to sprout of their own accord whilst I’m just sitting around strumming my guitar.  Occasionally, those initial seeds take years to grow into a shape that pleases me, let alone one that may please someone else.  

So in answer to her question, I didn’t say yes but then again I didn’t say no, feeling that the only way forward was to gather some thoughts about her and hope that somewhere along the line, these would bring into existence a tune that pleased the  both of us.  As luck would have it, everything dropped into place much more quickly than I’d imagined and here is the song I created for her.  As I write, she doesn’t even have the faintest idea it even exists, so we will have to wait and see whether it is everything she hoped it would be.  Let’s hope so…. (Terry Reeves)
