'A rising star from South America, Ric Niels has lit up the progressive house scene over the past three years. Now joining the Proportion roster, the Argentinean artist releases his “Pirate / Psyncopath” EP.

Renowned for his evocative and emotive sound, Ric Niels has found himself courted by some of the finest modern imprints through his fusing of analogue and digital synths to create a blend of deep, organic and tech sounds. As such, his music has found a welcome home on such celebrated imprints as The Soundgarden, Particles, Plaisirs Sonores and Mango Alley. Almost a half-century of production credits can thus be found for the latter in both solo and collaborative guises with Ric seeing work with Dowden, The Wash and Mango himself grace the Russian imprint.

Supported by an elite DJ cast list that includes the likes of Nick Warren, Guy J, Hernan Cattaneo and Henry Saiz, it is not difficult to see why the Argentinean from Chaco Province has continued to be such a sought-after producer within the progressive house fraternity. Opening his Proportion account with a scintillating musical diptych, “Pirate” immediately grabs listener attention with its pounding beat and deep bassline groove. Light percussive touches pervade the dense sonic layers as trademark melodic prowess reveals itself through a dynamic dancefloor backdrop. Cascading synth lines and delay-infused arpeggios ripple across the soundstage, coming to the fore at a striped back breakdown before a growling bass riff heralds an exciting final movement full of potency and drive.

Pulling the listener in with a shaker-fuelled percussive line and chest-thumping kick, “Psyncopath” provides the hallmark rhythmic poise for which Ric Niels has become renowned for. Full of sinister menace, a creeping bassline pattern and textured pads swim dizzyingly across the stereo spectrum in the early stages before a filtered arpeggio wends its way onto the main stage with poise and verve. Infused with white-noise at a mid-point chock full of sonic layers and captivating melodic characters, the final movement drives effortlessly forward as the hypnotic groove once again finds it mark.

Lighting up the stage on Proportion, Ric Niels delivers another moment of mesmerising magic with his “Pirate / Psyncopath” EP.'

A firm favourite of the progressive and melodic house faithful, Sebastian Sellares has consistently cast a bright light on his production credentials. With of growing body of work that has seen outstanding releases for the likes of Paul Thomas' UV, Cid Inc's Replug and GMJ & Matter's Meanwhile, Sebastian's "Jinsei / Zen State" EP was a notable Proton Music highlight in October 2020, including remixes from Matias Chilano and the iconic, Nick Muir. Now returning with a second original EP, "Conviction" is founded upon a metronomic top-line and heavy beat before filtered synths subtly enter the fray. Full of wonderful sound effects and sonic character that grabs listener attention, eerie textures add to the collage before a sublime arpeggio makes its mark. Rising and falling, it reaches a powerful crescendo in the final movement. A vibrant dynamism and shimmering melody immediately provide a lighter air to "Reverse Call". Still characterised by a familiar sonic narrative, a strong arpeggio and free-flowing synth sequence adds emotion aplenty at the breakdown before a snare roll heralds the return of a mesmerising dancefloor groove and rhythmic brio.

An artist familiar artist to the underground progressive house cognoscenti, Imran Khan has consistently created a portfolio of music that contains the musical hallmarks of a talented producer. Almost 200 production credits bear witness to that success over an 8-year period. Proton Music has played its own part in showcasing the Imran Khan sound as 2019's "Organic" and "Sunsweat" EPs testify. Remixes for the likes of LADS, GMJ, Dmitry Molosh, and Petar Dundov in late 2021 are now joined by a typically atmospheric interpretation of "Conviction". Incorporating the atmospheric textures and soundscapes of the original, Imran has turned them into a hypnotic rolling dancefloor groove that scintillates with its delayed arps and beautifully crafted counterpoint keys that drift across the breakdown landscape. The resultant combination of rhythm and melody is a tribute to the UK producer's sublime technique and innate production talent.

Subconscious Tales has always revelled in music that comes from ‘carefully crafted compositions that embrace the energy of darkness and beauty.' Able to translate this mission statement in a double century of releases, the Latvian producer has been a Proton Music regular with such standout moments as 2019's "Magnectares", 2020's "Soulreaper" and April 2022's "Experience" EPs. A portfolio bookended by remixes for David Calo in 2017 and Dabeat in mid-2022, Subconscious Tales now returns with a beautifully crafted interpretation of "Conviction" that bristles with energy and hi-hat urgency. Crafting a huge bassline groove, a familiar arpeggio from Sebastian Sellares' track makes its presence felt, building in imperceptible fizzing energy. Adding to the original, a swathe of new production material and sympathetic new melodies are grafted to original components in seamless fashion to create a majestic and powerful new remix.

Two new tracks from Sebastian Sellares plus remixes from Subconscious Tales and Imran Khan demonstrate true "Conviction".

"Althoff is a Brazilian artist who is quickly becoming a core member of the This And That Lab family, now making his third appearance on the label in the space of only a few months. Previously he has contributed a solo track to a various artist compilation, followed by a remix of Matteo Spedicati, and now he is back for his first solo EP on the label.

In April of 2018 when Althoff first featured on This And That Lab it was only the third track he had ever officially released. Since then he has not only made other releases on Davide Squillace's label, but also featured music on Rancido Music, Plano B, Appetite, and MoonShake Records.

Fast proving himself as a hotly tipped talent with a bright future ahead of him, this is another example of the deep and melodic style of house he is becoming known for.

The first of four tracks, “Uluwatu” opens with ambient textures layered over tom drums and tribal percussion. The story telling structure unfolds with unexpected twists and turns such as a glockenspiel style melody that adds to the mysterious atmosphere of this captivating cut.

“Lost Paradise” is second on the EP and keeping the mystic vibe alive, it’s got an ethereal atmosphere rich in percussion and uplifting melody. With a tripped out vocal that sounds like distant chants and an arpeggiated baseline, it’s got dance floor qualities that are sure to make it a crowd pleasing favourite.

Things get deeper as we get into the poignant melody and street carnival style percussion of “San Pedro”, which is a fusion of contrasting elements not usually mixed, but like a sweet and savoury treat the unusual blend of flavours in this quirky track work exceptionally well.

Finishing the EP is “Mount Olympus” which has a grinding baseline and epic pads with dramatic melody. Brought to life with snare rolls and a charismatic array of other percussion sounds, its warm and eloquent sound is the perfect way to round off this stunning release."
