Optimistic Octopus 2.0

Forthcoming self-release EP, exclusive to Bandcamp.

These tracks have been tweaked, twisted, and tuned to perfection over numerous live sets and recordings, and are presented here as the ‘Metropolis EP’.

Side A is aimed at the BRAIN - in ‘FntsyXrds’ and ‘Holkham Wind’, galaxy class acid meets emotive melodies on a sea of intricate beats. Side B however takes us deeper into the DANCE - ‘Alien Cat’ and ‘Tonal Spider’ offer up huge basses and streamlined acid, propelled by slamming percussion, and primed to get you moving.

Pressed on limited (100 copies) ORANGE vinyl, it will be available to pre-order on Bandcamp, on May 6th (the release is already in production and expected to arrive mid June). If there is enough demand, I will not rule out a potential repress on black vinyl.

I am trying  a new Express/Small Run service that allows for a 6-8 week turn around, instead of the current 5 months(!), it does however add to the cost slightly. If this goes well, it could be the start of a semi-regular dig into the MOY vaults, allowing me to involve you in the process and help decide what gems are pressed.

After a short hiatus, Distorted Sensory Perception returns… this time in the form of a 5 track various artists release featuring music from Vertical Dimension, Encrypted Theory, Fly Insect, ANITTA & Lerosa.
The record opens with atmospheric acid electro track titled ‘In Between’ from Malta’s Vertical Dimension (who is also ½ of Moodex). A fine example of melancholic machine-made music with a raw, emotional edge. Includes infectious drums, moody atmospheric keys and formidable basslines.

A-side closer comes from anonymous duo, ‘Encrypted Theory’. A diced-up break-beat laden journey full of delay drenched synth parts & a bumping dubbed out bassline. A unique balance of ambient synthesis, rippling arps and frantic sliced up beats that together provide a unique sound with a mood of its own.

B-side opens with a dark and doomy electro track dripping with Dopplereffekt vibes. ‘Greyskull’s Revenge’ from UK artist and Manchester native, Fly Insect. Titled in honour of a hardy neighbourhood cat and his pursuit for vengeance. A worthy sonic statement full of sinister synthesis.

B2 comes from Ukrainian artist, ANITTA. Her efforts in the studio created ‘Recondite Building’. A sweet, sorrowful take on ambient/braindance/electronica. Offering warm pads, franticly morphing acid squelch-lines that dip, dive & slide over dusty broken beats.

The record closes with a slow-mo dystopian electro number from Dublin’s Lerosa entitled ‘Discoloured’. Minimal chugging EBM-esque percussion drenched in dark Kraftwerkian style arps, heartfelt leads and a menacing bassline that carries the track and wraps up DSP’s 3rd VA and 6th 12” ever so nicely.

Known for his hardware-harnessing live shows and acidic jams, the Bristol-based Miles Otto’s ‘Skitter’ EP is alive with propulsive electro rhythms and dreamy synth melodies. ‘CV Swizzly’ grabs your attention with its wistful analogue tones and percussive crunch, before a burbling bassline burrows through the arrangement, while the 303-laced ‘Vectron’ takes cues from Detroit electro with its menacing riffs and eerie synth drifts. ‘Skitter’ itself subtly reveals its details layer by layer, with crisp drum machine hits and low tones opening out into mystic harmonies, and Plant43 (@plant43) recasts ‘CV Swizzly’ in his distinct image, adding metallic synth bass and urgent keys to finish the EP in fine style.

Like in the begining, Triphop was inspiring me. It's time to publish this project.
Some synthese from Studiologic Sledge 2.0. Beats on Roland MC-707.
I was use some loops (hard bass). Arps was done on Studiologic Sledge 2.0 too.
VST Plugins for punchy basses (KickShaper and Bassshaper), Widefire, some effects like Hybrid Reverb from Ableton. EQ Eight, Compressors with sidechains and my lovely Filter delay.
