Kuba Kapsa is a Polish pianist and composer being the leader of the avant-jazz combo Contemporary Noise Sextet (2006-2014). Beyond that he is a renowned composer for film and theater plays. His latest venture is the first of a sophisticated series of projects of modern classical music bearing the common title "Vantdraught".

The first part of the "Vantdraught" series was called "Vantdraught 10 · Vol. 1" and featured ten classical instruments - 4 violins, 2 violas, cello, vibraphone, marimba and piano. The now appearing second part is "Vantdraught 4", a quartet album written for violin, clarinet/bass clarinet, trombone and piano. The minimalistic style of Vantdraught 10 is preserved although the music is less repetitive and much more intimate. Instinct and intuition is the main force behind the writing process, usually avoiding typical chord progressions and the classical cadential technique. In contrast to "Vantdraught 10 · Vol. 1", the rhythm domain is also less important, thus allowing the melody and harmony to come to the fore. The pieces of "Vantdraught 4" are mainly tonal music but Kapsa also makes use of atonal and polytonal harmonies which requires the listener to put more effort into listening to these parts. The unusual set of instruments is what makes this quartet album unique and fresh sounding. "Vantdraught 4" is certainly linked to classical and minimal music in general but one can find other influences such as jazz and "new music".

Much like its predecessor, "Vantdraught 4" features an astonishing artwork based on "The Reluctant Conscript" by the seminal artist duo Kahn & Selesnick.

De profundis (Out of the deep) is a choral composition by Arvo Pärt. He wrote the work in 1980, a setting of Psalm 130 in Latin for a four-part men's choir, percussion (ad. lib.) and organ. It was first performed at the Martinskirche, Kassel on 25 April 1981, conducted by Klaus Martin Ziegler. Pärt dedicated the work of around 7 minutes to Gottfried von Einem.   Pärt composed the work a year after he left Estonia for first Vienna and then Berlin. He set Psalm 130 in Latin, a text speaking of profound distress which has inspired composers through the centuries, from polyphonic settings by Josquin des Prez to use in an opera of the 21st century by Lera Auerbach. Pärt composed the work in his personal tintinnabuli style, using simple means of expression. He scored it for a four-part men's choir (TTBB), percussion (ad lib.) and organ.  De profundis is in one movement, set for a male choir in four parts, organ and percussion. The optional percussion might be bass drum, tam-tam and a single tubular bell. The organ provides in deep registers a slow continuous ostinato pattern. Pärt built the voices from simple melodic phrases, increasing gradually to a climax. They begin in low register, rising and reaching a passage of unison of the four parts, before returning to silence, marked by a final sound of a bell.

Lorenzo Marasso was born in Torino, Italy. He graduated from the Conservatorio di Milano in 1994. The same year, he enrolled in the postgraduate program at the Royal Academy of Music in London, where he also studied orchestral conducting. In 1996, Lorenzo participated in the Park Lane Group Young Artist Series performing at the Southbank Centre in London, a solo recital of contemporary compositions by Paul Patterson, James Macmillan, John McCabe and Nimrod Borenstein. Lorenzo's commitment to performing contemporary works led him to participate to the Valentino Bucchi Piano Competition in Rome where he was a prize winner. Further engagements included performing the UK premiere of Keith Jarrett's Sonata for Violin and Piano at the Hatherleigh Festival as well as works by Nigel Clarke and John McCabe in the presence of the composers. Later on Lorenzo founded String Orchestra Project, an ensemble devoted to performing the chamber orchestral repertoire with no boundaries of styles or combination of players. In 2017 Lorenzo founded Bauhaus Records, a recording label devoted to restoring a more healthy and direct relationship between musicians and the recorded product. Current catalogue include the complete Inventions and Sinfonias by J.S. Bach, performed by Lorenzo, and Haydn's The Seven Last Words of Christ on the Cross. In June 2018 Lorenzo premiered "Partizan", a staged melologue for pianist and actor that Lorenzo commissioned LA-based composer Anne LeBaron. In February 2019 Lorenzo appeared on Classical KING FM NW Focus LIVE, a radio show showcasing the Pacific Northwest’s diverse music scene. Lorenzo currently lives in the Seattle area where he continues his activity of solo and collaborative pianist as well as chamber musician and educator and enjoys collaborations with the Philharmonia Northwest, Seattle University and Key to Change.
