Midan’s new album pays homage to the beautiful music of Brazil. The young producer, DJ and digger from Cologne channels his deep love for Bossa Nova, Samba and MPB (Música Popular Brasileira) into a 17-track strong album entitled ‘Letter To Brazil’. Accompanied by his good friends FloFilz, Saib, Mr. Käfer and LESKY. Artwork by São Paolo-based illustrator André Cast.

Born and raised in Paris, the half German half Algerian producer is one the most exciting new jacks on the German beatmaker scene. At the age of 23, Midan has already released a bunch of albums for renowned labels like Casual Low Grind, Mutombo Recods and Beat Jazz International.

‘Letter To Brazil’ will be available on LP and digital.

Sessions # 20 has arrived and we got one of our favorite beat makers (Tall Black Guy) to curate a delightful laid back mix for Dionysian Mysteries. 

From humble origins in Detroit, raised on a healthy diet of Motown, Jazz and early Hip Hop – Terrel Wallace (aka Tall Black Guy) has become a standard bearer for the current hip hop beats scene. Through a steady stream of productions filled with incredibly clever sample flips and deft production chops, he has won fans across the world, including Gilles Peterson (who included him on one of his Brownswood Bubblers albums), Lefto, Anthony Valadez, Jazzy Jeff, Questlove and countless others. With the tangible beginnings of worldwide recognition, Tall Black Guy has established himself to be one of the most influential producers working today.

2011-2015 has seen TBG’s first vinyl releases with bstrd boots, First Word Records, Ubiquity Records and his own imprint Tall Black Guy Productions (TBGP). Plus projects with artists like: 80s Babies, The Primeridian, Malice & Mario Sweet, Maylee Todd, Temika Moore, Teri Tobin, Skyzoo, The Colman Brothers, The Foreign Exchange, Sola Rosa, Rainy Milo, Georgia Anne Muldrow and TBO.

Cologne duo solo nour unveils their new single, sad something, a deeply introspective track that explores the weight of depression and the strength it takes to move forward. With their raw lyrics and a soundscape that mirrors the emotional journey from despair to hope, sad something captures the experience of those battling their inner struggles.

“There are days when even getting out of bed feels impossible,” Billie shares. “You convince yourself you’re stuck, yet life keeps moving. The weight lingers, but with time, it lightens, making space for joy to return. The first step is deciding to rise—even when it feels like you can’t.”

Billie Barleben—yes, that is her real name—is a trained actress and loves to dance. In addition to her artistic pursuits, she is involved with the project minhafaktur, a cooperative in Cologne-Poll that creates spaces for collaborative and interdisciplinary work. At the first event she organized, Yaşar Fidan—known as Anatolian Lover—also performed. Anatolian Lover grew up in Ankara and Ingolstadt. He is a beatmaker with a classic hip-hop background and has released various works with Dezibelle Records from Berlin. He is also an aspiring social worker who conducts workshops on racial equality, diversity, and masculinity.

It took a second meeting for Billie Barleben and Anatolian Lover to come together as solo nour. The fact that this happened at a surf camp in France is a charming anecdote, but not the main point. A few weeks later—in Winter 2023—they met for the first time in Yaşar's home studio in Cologne-Mühlheim. Since then, they’ve hardly ever stopped making music.

“At some point, I received a message from Yaşar that he needed a break from me because he couldn't hear my voice anymore over all the mixing. At that time, there were ten songs in progress—simultaneously. Now it’s fine again,” Billie jokes, adding, “Our music has become a place of encounter and connection. With solo nour, a deep friendship has also developed.”

This is a friendship they now want to share with the rest of the world. It’s about time, we think, because the way solo nour brings together hip-hop, indie, soul, and pop is very much worth a listen.
