LoFi-turned-HiFi producer FloFilz has teamed up with South London R&B artists Jerome Thomas for new single ‘Sensitive’. With his debut EP for Rhythm Section in 2021, Jerome has already captivated fans and tastemakers alike. On ‘Sensitive’ the Hackney-raised singer continues his distinct and soothing sound that has brought him support from heavyweight platforms like COLORS and BBC 1 and 6. ‘Sensitive’ is the third single off FloFilz’s upcoming album ‘Close Distance’ that will be released on April 8th.

‘Close Distance’ literally means “near in space or time” (or “nah dran”, as we say in German). The 16 songs on ‘Close Distance’ came to life over the past two turbulent years. It is no exaggeration to say that FloFilz has not only created another inspiring album with ‘Close Distance’ but one that demonstrates how music can close the distance which we all have experienced (and still do) in a beautiful way. With features by UK Jazz supremos Alfa Mist and Blue Lab Beats, London R&B artists Jerome Thomas and KeepVibesNear, long-term musical partners Summers Sons & C.Tappin, UK Jazz/Hip-Hop trio Dal & Cape Town Neo-Soul singer and songwriter Hunter Rose. ‘Close Distance’ will be released digitally and on LP with artwork by Indonesian illustrator Fatchurofi.

Exposed to music from a young age, FloFilz grew up in Belgium before moving to Aachen, Germany where he studied the violin and classical music, while also playing in orchestras. In addition to his parents, who were both musicians, he cites Hip-Hop icons A Tribe Called Quest, J Dilla and Madlib as key influences. Recognised as one of Germany’s most in-demand producers, the self-taught bedroom beatmaker has built his reputation led by his seductive blend of Lo-Fi, Soul and Jazz-influenced groves. Taking great inspiration from London's Jazz scene he has previously collaborated with the likes of MF DOOM, Alfa Mist, Barney Artist, Ivan Ave, Blu, JuJu Rogers, Biig Piig, K.A.A.N., J.Lamotta and K, Le Maestro.

Mysterious Melbourne instrumentalists The Pro-Teens return with another sharp tribute to the late villain, MF Doom, with two new covers. We’re very happy to share one of these, a near-all instrumental take on “Doomsday”.

“Doomsday”, the title track from MF DOOM’s seminal debut ‘Operation: Doomsday’, is reimagined as a laid back, synthesizer-topped funk burner, featuring vocalist ‘Polly The Invincible Pearl’ replicating Pebbles The Invisible Girl’s iconic Sade-inspired hook. The Pro-Teens warp Doom’s instantly recognisable beat into an irresistible 70s soul groover. 

Bandleader Hudson Whitlock describes: “As the sessions went on, the Pro-Teens traversed lots of ground with the arrangements and productions. This diversity of tones, moods, feels and arrangements was an intentional act to mirror the diversity within DOOM's own diverse musical vocabulary. We wanted to fluctuate between putting our own spin on DOOM's classic tunes as well as staying true to the original source”.

Within Melbourne's burgeoning cinematic soul scene mysteriously sit The Pro-Teens. Helmed by prolic drummer Hudson Whitlock (Karate Boogaloo, Surprise Chef), this breakaway studio project involves an interchangeable collective of incognito instrumentalists playing under outlandish pseudonyms such as 'Dead Honest’ Dean Amazing and Libby Clique-Baite.

Drawing from players within the College Of Knowledge family, The Pro-Teens now have 4
outstanding LPs to their name, including 2020’s triumphant Snooch Dodd & The Pro-Teens – ‘I Flip My Life Every Time I Fly’, the breakout release that attracted a worldwide reissue on Mr Bongo and earned BBC 6 Music’s Album Of The Day.

A 7” vinyl and digital single with “Doomsday” and an instrumental take of “Curls” by Madvillain (Doom and Madlib) will be available digitally and on 7” vinyl via College Of Knowledge Records on July 29th.

One of the underground's hardest-working young producers, Oddisee has built a thorough body of work with a steady stream of albums, mixtapes, collaborations, and instrumental projects. On Rock Creek Park, he breaks us off with 10 joints that are universally chill, loaded with jazz-drenched loops offering wispy flutes, funked-out bass lines, breezy guitar licks, soft horns, and earthy pianos. “Closed After Dark," "Beach Dr.," and the vibraphone-and-ride-cymbal-laced "Mattered Much" are standouts, though the ‘80s-influenced "Uptown Cabaret" and yU collabo "Still Doing It" are also impressive. Though many of the tracks are similar on the low-BPM head-nod tip, they all sound great and make an ideal soundtrack for just keeping it mellow.
