Steve of Open Crates troops from Jersey City to Brooklyn to see Pat Van Dyke & John Robinson get busy at The Brooklyn Museum First Saturdays for the release of their Modern Vintage album. 

In BK fashion, the museum was deep in rhythm with JR on the mic, PVD leading the band, Melinda Camille crooning melodies and a cast of special guests around the stage. 

Halfway through the set, Shabaam Sahdeeq (Rawkus, Soundbombing, you should know) and El da Sensei (Artifacts, tags all over Jersey, you should know again) , dipped in twin Polo Rugbys, grab the mic to perform the album cut Vinyl Is Forever. 

And as expected, three lyrical Gods can’t get off without a freestyle session … one that brings Homeboy Sandman out of the audience to flip verses over the band workin' out Bob James’ classic "Nautilus". 

When the cipher ended, Steve immediately texted Pat to cut a side of Nautilus and flip Love You Inside Out (just cuz he loves that record) with Melinda Camille. Re:Crates was born.

"Singing was always a big passion for me..I was always fascinated at all the acrobatic vocal runs some singers do with their voice. To me it's an athletic thing and I definitely see myself as a vocal athlete..and for that deeper understanding of my voice that I now have I have to thank my vocal coach Betty Lane. She literally helped me to push out the voice that had been waiting there for years, ready to come out, like "John use me, I'm your voice" and It was always a goal of mine to make a project that showcases my singing. I see myself as a singer songwriter first, I just grew up in the generation of rap, so the 2 styles just fused together naturally. I started writing poems around 8 or 9 years old, then songs, and then raps. I eventually put it all together…22 years later...the journey to my heart , through all the ups and downs of my career trying to discover my voice, who I am, all my travels around the globe. It all leads back to Home, in the most literal sense. The house I’m sitting in front of on the video for "Home" is the house my parents brought me home to as a baby. So for me it’s like going back to the original source, the original purpose. That purpose for me is to sing. That's why this album is so special for me...and Calvin made the perfect soundtrack for me to take you on a soulful stroll through my hometown, Detroit Michigan aka Motown. Hope you enjoy! A producer from Bologna, Italy records a song with an MC from London, England and releases it through a label from Cologne, Germany - that's our way to say “F*ck Brexit”.

For his new single Koralle has teamed up with London MC,  rapper, producer and songwriter Isatta Sheriff. Like the title suggests it's a “Laid Back” jam and the hook is strictly butter in a fu-gee-la way but Isatta is spitting real fire on her verses:

“I enjoy creativity and wanted the title and delivery to represent my approach to making art in general.” Isatta explains the creative process behind the song's lyrics. “Inspired by the sounds within the instrumental, I pictured evening dinners at pricey restaurants when I began writing. I thought of where I grew up in east London, which is now the biggest cliche in discussions about gentrification. I reflect on our lives, the music we played and still play, the TV shows we watched and the things I miss.”

Hot on the heels of “Fuel” w/ Turt (Summers Sons), “Laid Back” is already the second rap track that Koralle is blessing us with in 2020 and we are more than happy to provide the vehicle for this.

Syrup is a new group from London and Cologne. The group consists of
producer Twit One, pianist & singer C.Tappin and rapper Turt (Summers Sons).
Their style of music is called Cool Bap.

A follow-up to “Burnt Out” and “The Recipe”, “Politickin” is Syrup’s third single
and Turt is tearing politicians to pieces:

On the news mad poison in that voice
All they sell is fear that’s a bad choice
Bag of lies making shit dramatic
All a front act diplomatic
Switch the candidate the pricks are plastic
Cause the problem really systematic
You can block our sight but never stop our vision

Twit, Turt and Tappin first met at a club in Bristol some years ago, where Twit
played a DJ gig. They quickly became friends and have been working on music
together ever since. In 2017 Twit brought Turt and Tappin over to Cologne to
perform at the legendary Radio Love Love boat party. In the same year
Summers Sons released “Undertones”, their first EP for Melting Pot Music,
followed by “Uhuru” (2018) and “The Rain” (2019) and C.Tappin's debut EP
“Ashes To Ashes” (2019).

When they told us about the project and played us some of the music we were instantly hooked and joined the collective as label partner. The art direction is executed by Sergio “SagaUno” Alférez, an acclaimed designer and illustrator from Medellín, Colombia.

Starting in September, we release a new single each Thursday from artists like 
Kofi Stone, Summers Sons, Enny, KeepVibesNear, Manik MC, Lex Amor, Louis The Hippie, Summer-Pearl, Joe Beard and many more.

All 15 singles will also be available on one LP on 27th November and digitally on 11th December.
