Solid Steel (6th September) Letherette return to Solid Steel for the first hour following the release of their self titled album and the recent single 'After Dawn'. Their mix touches on some 80's gems from Aaron Broomfield, The Jones Girls, 9th Creation and Kashif, laced throughout with a whole plethora of Letherette tracks straight off the hard drive. 'After Dawn' is out now and features remixes from Bibio, Barker and Baumecker, plus a Jimmy Edgar remix of 'Restless'.

Solid Steel in association with Serato (24th April) This week we launch a brand new Solid Steel website at http://solidsteel.net and we're delighted to welcome back two guests Caribou and Colleen with exclusive new mixes to celebrate. They both appeared in the same show 10 years ago and on the new website you can hear their 2005 mixes in the Featured section, along with Caribou’s mix from 2000 when he was still known as Manitoba. Also released this week will be a mix from Matthew Herbert as Doctor Rockit (1995), Autechre mix (1997) and a Juan Atkins mix and interview from 1988, plus selected shows from the last 27 years and many more to come each week.

In Hour 2, Colleen is celebrating the release of her latest album 'Captain of None' which is out now on Thrill Jockey. It's a special "Thank You Jamaica" mix that is clearly dear to her heart and she tells us a little more about this love affair;

"My love story with Jamaican music is in three parts: first as a child in the late 70s/early 80s, when my parents bought (probably by accident) a tape containing mostly Lee Perry songs from 1976, which we would listen to on long car trips. Then in my mid-20s when I moved to Paris and bought and borrowed dozens of Jamaican reissues from the Paris music libraries – it was the first time I was listening to the music with a musician’s ear, but given my way of making music at that time (sampling from records) I ended up concentrating on other genres which could be of use as more “unrecognizable” sample-fodder. But in late 2012, just as I was recording my fourth album The Weighing of the Heart, I rediscovered the music and this time it hit me really deep – it was like my ears were finally in the right condition to really hear the music in all its amazing inventiveness, and I had also reached a point in my own way of making music where finally I could see how the Jamaican sense of freedom and experimentation could infuse my own music – and from that moment I knew in what direction I would take my next album, which became Captain of None.
This mix contains some of my favourite Jamaican music and showcases its incredible diversity, with everyone (singers, musicians, producers) at the top of their game and displaying real individuality. "

This mix was inspired by Reggae and Jazz that you can shake a leg to in the dance. I was blown away by seeing Anderson .Paak perform last year in Finsbury Park, and love Kaytranada's sound. There's also some other big inspirations of mine in there including Azymuth, Parliament, and Herbie Hancock among others. I'm really feeling all of K15's productions, especially his new EP on Eglo Records, so I had to get a track of his in there!

MIMS Guest Mix: Ash Walker (Deepheads, London)

Gem and Atsuko Satori, are a unit of two female DJs called PALM BABYS from Tokyo's underground music scene since the summer of 2015. Gem combines a groovy mix between house and disco.  Atsuko combines a funky sound of deep house and techno. Their original sound has no genre, and their love for vinyl keeps them rocking the floors of Tokyo. PBS debut their America tour in California, where they played in LA at Dublub Radio,  pool parties in Hollywood, and made club appearances around town. In San Fransisco, the duo performed at a party called "Night Life" at the California Science of Academy San Fransisco. They have continued to play since being back in Tokyo at NTS Radio and the Red Bull Studio where they will progress and pursue music and DJing. PBS will keep evolving within the Tokyo DJ scene and internationally.

As we enter our Thirteenth year of the monthly 'Keep It Unreal' gigs in Manchester, the atmosphere & people never cease to inspire me. Old, young, regulars, first timers, everyone getting properly down to a real mixed bag of music on that fantastic sound system. This night was also part of Manchester Jazz Festival.
