Latinos B-Boys Locos

Mash & Munkee are Kolja Starkowski (aka Deli-Kutt) and David Hanke (aka Unifairfly/Renegades of Jazz) and are based in Wuppertal and near Hamburg, Germany. Kolja was DJing and David was running a radio show before they met online at the record database site Discogs and, after discovering a common taste in music, teamed up to form Mash & Munkee. The rest, as they say, is history!

After a series of well-received singles on labels such as Backslide, Jack To Phono, Funk Weapon and of course Hero Records they spent time compiling and remastering the best of these releases and writing new tracks to compliment them and ended up with this amazing debut album. Taking musical influences from all over the world this album contains the straight up funk of the single “Superbad” and the scratch-filled b-boy grooves of “Here We Come!” together with afrobeat and latin influenced groovers such as “Kibo” and “Venga Veras”. From downtempo hip hop head-nodders like “Mexican B-Boy” to the faster tempos of the dancefloor-filling nu-funk of “Make A Difference” this album encompasses all that we at Hero Records love about music. Available as a very limited CD with collectable 6-panel digifile sleeve and digital download this album is destined to be a smash hit with lovers of everything funky.

Punchout! busts forth with a brand new 7“ single from The Gaff,
renowned Canadian crate-digger turned international beat-wrangler. As
a walking encyclopedia of all things funky, The Gaff’s record
collection and knowledge has awed other like-minded rhythm purveyors
such as DJ Nu-Mark, Cosmo Baker, and Fort Knox Five. With access to
such a deep inventory of musical history it’s no wonder that The
Gaff’s DJ sets and production work have also inspired much acclaim
from his fans and contemporaries. The Gaff consistently offers a party
rockin’ collage of snippets, samples, and drum breaks from dusty vinyl
sources, splicing the familiar into something new and always ready to
hype the dance floor. This latest single is certainly no exception,
with two rousing cuts filled with sounds so hot they just might ignite
the more flammable turntables. ”Do That Thing“ pops and locks through
a lethal groove, with classic phrases and samples bursting out so fast
it’ll make the listener’s head spin quicker than the record’s 45 RPMs.
There’s also a beats-only version here to entice the DJ to come
prepared with doubles. Meanwhile, on the B-side, ”Under The Sun" flips
and reconstructs The Mothership into a filtered, funky stomper that

The Gaff - Tribute To Hank (Digital only)

Steve Bird AKA Mr Bird is a musician, producer & DJ, based in Lisbon, Portugal, for 15 years now. Mr Bird has released 4 albums and many other digital releases, including the album 'Low-Fi Classics' which was released by BBE Music in July 2014. A collaboration with singer Greg Blackman, it received strong support from radio and DJs worldwide, including Craig Charles on his Funk and Soul Show, and tracks from the album have recently been remixed by Tom Moulton and Ashley Beedle and released on vinyl with the Ramrock Blue label.


In 2013, he released the 3rd Mr Bird LP, imaginatively titled "Bird Bird Bird" on the Vital Force label. He also released two 7" singles on Resense Records and Lisboa Records with Portuguese producer Dedy Dread, as well as 5 vinyl releases on the Heavy Duty Booty label and several digital releases on his own 'Fat Bird Sounds' label.


in 2001 & 2007 Mr Bird released 2 instrumental hip-hop albums on the Brighton based labels 'Hertz Recordings' and 'Frequent Soundz.'

Back in 2001 he was invited to record a session for DJ John Peel at the BBC Maida Vale Studios, which was broadcast twice in 2002.
Mr Bird is currently in demand as a re-mixer, having remixed over 100 artists & bands including Daytoner, Karthala 72, Lee Fields, Dalindeo, Renegades of Jazz, Captain Planet, Savages, Odyssey and many more. He is currently working on several new musical projects, singers & collaborators world-wide.
