I am so pleased to have been able to collaborate with stellar guitarist Alan Catton to take one of his instrumentals, write some lyrics then add my vocals to the piece. One of the great things about SoundCloud is hearing a track and being inspired to want to add to what you've just heard. This happened to me with Alan's haunting instrumental "Tides.

It only took around 40 minutes for the words to coalesce around Alan's playing and a few days to finalise the vocal performance. It's great when that happens :-)

Given the title of the song, I added some waves sound Fx too but otherwise it's just voice and guitar that hopefully gives a very earthy and organic feel to the track.

The result is a very simple song of lost love set against the background of the ebb and flow of the tides. Alan's sensitive playing and the title just took me way and I quite like the idea of the tides ebbing and flowing suggesting loss, the slate wiped clean, but maybe not, as the pain of lost love cannot always be erased so easily.

Tides(collaboration Alan Catton)

A collection of songs, instrumentals and orchestral pieces charting my adventures in home studio recording and production.  All original compositions using voice, acoustic and electric guitar (sometimes using altered tunings), bouzouki, low and high whistles and MIDI instrumentation.
