Greetings my SC friends. It’s been over a month since I was last able to offer you new music on my page… and I'm thrilled that this is the piece breaking that break. This time I had the privilege of teaming up with our good friend Tea Are Sea (https://soundcloud.com/tea_are_sea, https://teaaresea.bandcamp.com/). 

Terry and I have been Soundcloud buddies for around 3 years now. While his music has always been highly creative and entertaining to my ears, I’ve really enjoyed watching his style grow more complex and sophisticated over the years. Terry has also expanded his musical adventures into some truly intriguing collaborative directions (one such project is his Land of the ZED series, involving 4 great SC artists: https://soundcloud.com/tea_are_sea/johnny-plays-the-blues). I highly recommend it.

Now for the wonderfully silly title we chose. The innuendo is strong with this one (in fact, we may have reached the legal limit). At the heart of it all, it’s truly just about keeping your center in the face of swirling chaos and noise. But we also couldn’t resist poking a little fun at the dysfunction. 

So we hope you enjoy this strangely spacey and futuristic feeling sonic adventure (we’re picturing a fun facelift to early Flash Gordon). You’ll be happy to know… Atman and his very particular team (a little quantum physics joke there) definitely win the day, and save our planet from the blood sucking parasites. In fact, one might call it a ‘love yourself’ story, filled with grand adventure, intrigue, and those cool old spaceships that sported the 50s car fins… because 0-60 in space is so much easier when your ship is stylishly aerodynamic. Given the success of our previous challenge, I decided to share another haiku by 20th century poet Ozaki Hōsai.
Hōsai graduated from the Tokyo Imperial University, where he studied law. He got off to a good start but decided to give up his home, family, and business to jump from one militant religion of Japan to the other.
Just like Taneda Santoka, Hōsai abandoned the traditional verse form of his time and mostly looked at the austere confines of his life for inspiration.

The Adventures of Vector Owl - Halloween Short

A 26 second piece of music to support an upcoming  Halloween themed Vector Owl short animation. If you can, compare this short with the original theme tune to hear how it's been tweaked to give what I think is a spooky vibe.

Vector Owl is a cheeky magical owl who gets up to various antics in the forest he calls home. Quite often, he just wants to have a quiet snooze but pesky creatures keep disturbing him.

Thankfully, with his understanding of the power of vector magic, he can conjure up solutions to these annoyances and get back to having a well earned rest.

Background

This project began with a 10 second piece of music and a very simple 2D animation of a little character called Vector Owl.

The music was expanded into a full theme tune, a brand new redesigned Vector Owl emerged and a change of animation software resulted in what you see here. Whilst familiar with creating music, animation is a completely new world to me and I'm still learning as I go.

All the graphic elements are vector-based, using a combination of Serif Affinity software for graphical development and various open-source packages for animation and video editing, with the original music created in Cubase Pro.

The idea of a Halloween Short for Vector Owl seemed a great opportunity to play around in adapting the original theme tune to a spooky setting.  I used the same instruments, slowed down the tempo and went from major to minor. The addition of some choral elements was enough for this short piece of music.

When completed, the Halloween short link will be posted here, but for now it can be enjoyed purely as a very short piece of orchestral incidental music. :-)

'Smokescreens And Other - Isms' is a Jazz Fusion track inspired by the awareness of the sheer blanket of untruth covering the true meanings behind most if not all things ending in "isms" (capitalism, communism, socialism, catholisism, etc, etc, etc!)
Nothing personal intended against other's views, only my own observations...So please enjoy this light hearted fusion track, confirming that music is "a way" to circumnavigate these "isms".
