'Firstly, I want to say a massive thank you to so many of you for supporting me on my musical journey so far. I am still trying to catch up with all the beautiful messages & tweets of support & encouragement whilst I have been (mainly) away for a couple of months. 

I am still juggling some big life-challenges and may be quite intermittent for a while longer but I have been working away in the background despite a reduced social media presence. 

Enough about that & onto the music!

This track is a kind of 'Trancey/Hip-Hop' type track.
When I wrote this several years ago I was having some turbulent times, so again, I felt it was appropriate to release it around about now... 

As some of you are aware, I have had and am still having some difficult times again recently, however I'd rather reflect that to you through my music, as I am not the only one in life who struggles or goes through difficult times of course. 

As I'd rather not bring you down with the 'why's & wherefores' (because no doubt you have enough on your plate already) or you just wanted to enjoy some music without feeling burdened by my problems... Then I can instead, give you an insight into my situation & how I feel sometimes, by sharing my past & current struggles with you, through the expression of sounds & images that I created during these times...

I hope that anyone else who needs to process difficult times at the moment can gain some peace & comfort through this instrumental that I created, knowing, you are not alone... and that it is okay to not be okay sometimes...
 
We keep the music rolling!

"Up in the Gallery" (German: "Auf der Galerie") is a short piece of fiction written by Franz Kafka. It was created between November 1916 and February 1917 and published in the collection „Ein Landarzt“ (A Country Doctor) in 1919. The story offers two versions of a scene in which a young man watches a circus ringmaster and a woman on horseback. (Wikipedia)

If some frail tubercular lady circus rider 
were to be driven in circles around and around 
the arena for months and months 
without interruption 
in front of a tireless public 
on a swaying horse 
by a merciless whip-wielding 
master of ceremonies, 
spinning on the horse, 
throwing kisses and swaying at the waist, 
and if this performance, 
amid the incessant roar 
of the orchestra and the ventilators, 
were to continue into 
the ever-expanding, gray future, 
accompanied by applause, 
which died down and then swelled up again, 
from hands which were really steam hammers, 
perhaps then a young visitor to the gallery 
might rush down the long stair case 
through all the levels, 
burst into the ring, and cry “Stop!” 
through the fanfares 
of the constantly adjusting orchestra.


But since things are not like that,

since a beautiful woman, in white and red, 
flies in through curtains 
which proud men in livery open in front of her, 
since the director, 
devotedly seeking her eyes, 
breathes in her direction, 
behaving like an animal, and, as a precaution, 
lifts her up on the dapple-gray horse, 
as if she were his grand daughter, 
the one he loved more 
than anything else,
as she starts a dangerous journey, 
but he cannot decide to give the signal with his whip 
and finally, 
controlling himself, gives it a crack, 
runs right beside the horse with his mouth open, 
follows the rider's leaps with a sharp gaze, 
hardly capable of comprehending her skill, 
tries to warn her by calling out in English, 
furiously castigating the grooms holding hoops, 
telling them to pay the most scrupulous attention, 
and begs the orchestra, with upraised arms,
to be quiet before the great jump, 
finally lifts the small woman down from the trembling horse, 
kisses her on both cheeks, 
considers no public tribute adequate, 
while she herself, leaning on him, 
high on the tips of her toes, 
with dust swirling around her, 
arms outstretched and head thrown back, 
wants to share her luck with the entire circus—
since this is how things are, 
the visitor to the gallery puts his face on the railing and, 
sinking into the final march as if into a difficult dream, weeps,

The Adventures of Vector Owl - The Forest Theme

Vector Owl is a cheeky magical owl who gets up to various antics in the forest he calls home. To support the animated stories, a piece of music was required to set the scene before an adventure begins. The idea is that it probably be used after the main theme tune. Further incidental music will be written as required depending upon the story line. 

As a result, an idyllic theme was required to help put the viewer into the forest environment and additionally act as a reprise at the end of his adventure.

Instrumentation Used

Piccolo / Alto Flute / Bassoon / French Horn / Celtic Harp / Vibraphone / Cello / Ensemble Violins / Ensemble Violas / Celestial Strings 

Background

This project began with a 10 second piece of music and a very simple 2D animation of a little character called Vector Owl.

The music was expanded into a full theme tune, a brand new redesigned Vector Owl emerged and a change of animation software resulted in what you see in the Full Animated Intro above.

Now that the Intro is complete, the journey begins on creating graphical assets and pieces of incidental music / sound FX for his first adventure. This Forest Theme is a vital part of these assets to help create a complete adventure. Music and sound FX will be particularly important with characters that don't speak to support any on-screen graphics. 

The Forest Theme can be enjoyed purely as a short piece of orchestral music of course. :-)
