The Possibility of a New Work for Electric Guitar - M. Feldman (live)

A preview from a longer piece for the Game of Life Wavefield Synthesis system, which simulates moving wavefronts using 192 speakers. 
All materials result from transformations of a single short synthetic percussion sound (heard at the beginning). The transformations include wide application of waveset distortion using Trevor Wishart's CDP software (unstablesound.net).

A generative soundscape/installation in Supercollider for n channels. This piece explores a dialectical relation between control and chance, where the individual sounds are shaped in detail but  appear in a random sequence, creating new and unexpected contexts for the sounds with each iteration of the piece. The allusion to nature is based on the indifference of the process to the sounds, which may appear to have causal and teleological relations at times.

Језик (in Serbian) meaning “tongue”, but also "language", is a composition made of 11 short pieces, each being centered around the theme of human speech. These are short studies in language articulation, utilized by musical means. From appreciation of spoken words in all their acoustic subtleties, to artificial and enforced musical (rhythmical) structures that are not inherent to speech, I was testing the elasticity of language, stretching the boundaries of its musicality to the point of rupture. For me, within these ruptures, new (musical) meanings arise.

Jezik - Excerpts

As promised two years ago, Laurent Perrier delivers the second instalment in his Plateforme series, and "Plateforme #2" makes it clear that the French audio wizard did NOT put all the best material from this project on the first disc.

In an audio production world where possibilities have become endless, Perrier designed for himself a very restrictive framework: he asked artists for raw audio materials that are representative of their usual soundworld, and decided to produce one piece of sound art per artist using that material – and only that material, no matter what and how much of it he would receive. He calls it a "one-way collaboration".

The results are a testament to Perrier's creativity and sense of balance. Each piece irradiates its namesake's musical personality while maintaining a pace, facture, and intent that are all Perrier's. In that regard, this volume displays a stronger sense of cohesion than #1. "Francisco López" is probably the most immediately identifiable piece of the whole project, thanks to the Spanish composer's unmistakable field recordings. That was to be expected; what was not is how "Tom Recchion" and "Christian Zanési" seem to build on the foundations laid down in that first piece – same kind of sharp back-and-forth cutting between sounds, same type of non-linear narrative – despite the fact that raw materials are obviously more varied. The results are incredibly absorbing and warrant multiple listens.

Laurent Perrier ranks among the most respected members of the French electronic music scene. His name is associated to the aliases Zonk't, Pylône, Heal, Cape Fear, and LP, with the Odd Size label, an adventure that lasted a decade, and the urban tribal industrial rock band Nox. His music art ranges from minimal techno to musique concrète, by way of several other states, with incursions in video installation and contemporary art, plus collaborations with choreographers and playwrights.

The fundamental concept behind this piece is emergence, or how a complex organism can grow and evolve in a structured environment according to its genetic predisposition. The piece itself is conceived as a constantly developing, purely synthetic musical organism. This organism is designed as a complex dynamical system whose structure develops over time. The model is implemented with a hierarchical network of Lindenmayer systems - a generative algorithm invented to model the growth of plants and muliticellular organisms. The DNA of this musical organism is embedded in the L-systems as a set of compositional and transformational rules; genetic algorithms are used to evolve these rules over time. The L-systems control a granular DSP engine in a multitude of different levels by generating a constantly varying number of musical agents with hierarchical relations that move, act and interact with and within their environment. The behavior of the agents is used to develop the initial musical seed causing complex contrapuntal patterns to emerge in all the time-scales of the composition. The piece was composed in 2006, and was awarded an honorable mention at the Gaudeamus Music Week in 2007.
