The Situation crew and I go back a long way. 

I was honoured and pleased to be involved in their early releases, and the setting up of their own imprint that caught a lot of DJs and labels attention at the time. And I always play Situation tracks and edits whenever I play out. Plus they are all great chaps who love music and know how to live and laugh.

So this year when we had a wee reunion at Glastonbury at Maceo's one night they asked me to remix a track from their new LP to bring the relationship and the love full circle. And here it is...hope you like it too!

Craig has been an NSA favorite for a few years now, back in 2010 his track Birdshell on Instruments of rapture first grabbed our attention. Since then Craig has produced and remixed various outstanding records on his label Magicfeet Recordings. We had the pleasure of bringing him North of the border for his Scottish debut in 2013, he now returns to play NSA in 2017.

It’s hard to find the words to describe the influence this man has had on our Stockholm Syndrome project. A highly respected purveyor of the finest music money can’t buy, professional beat-raconteur and upstanding member of the disco dance music community, Mr Sean Johnston creates ethereal sonic landscapes both in his productions and behind the decks of any dance floor.  Sean's productions as Hardway Bros have graced many of our go-to labels, most recently hot New York label Throne of Blood. He is an in-demand remixer, having reworked artists such as Alien Alien, The Asphodells, Haules Baules, Craig Bratley and Ajello. It is with great pleasure that our favourite number is taken up with this mans music! Vol. 23 of Hostage Radio is now live!!

Hostage Radio Vol. 23 - Sean Johnston

A couple of things this week made me revisit this edit. Firstly Greg Wilson featured it in a 'Festival Anthems' selection he recently uploaded to Mixcloud - http://tinyurl.com/d6yvsbc - and secondly it was featured in the closing scene and credits to this weeks episode of Mad Men. The combined effect meant that a fair few people have been downloading the version I uploaded here 3 years ago (which was also only available as a low quality MP3), so I thought it apt to give it a 'spit and polish' and make a remastered WAV version available for download. 

Even if you downloaded my original version you should grab this too as the remaster kicks like the proverbial mule!  :)

This week is a special one for us, and we are totally honoured to welcome Hardway Bros to our series. Probably best known in the modern day as one half of the enigmatic DJ duo ALFOS, Sean Johnston has long been one of our favourite selectors and with very good reason. 

Today he guides us on a two hour tour of the known universe, main points of interest include, but are not limited to; sidewinding psychedelia, low slung instrumentation, bubbling acid bass, and arps galore. 

All we can say is frothzoid.

Hailing from London, Sean Johnston is one half of the infamous "A Love From Outer Space" duo alongside Andrew Weatherall and also part of Hardway Bros. Described as an "Acid-House Veteran, Techno Survivor and Alpinist" he has released plenty of records on labels and outfits such as Throne Of Blood, Sabres Of Paradise, Luna Flicks, Astro Lab or IsItBalearic?!
Last month he finally released some new music under the moniker of "A Mountain Of Rimowa" on american label 2MR. (avail here ==> https://amountainofrimowa.bandcamp.com/album/a-mountain-of-rimowa )

@Gourmandisque launches its first release « GMD 001 » composed by @doubluremusic, co-founder of the collective. With these 4 impetuous tracks, the EP revisits the universe of italo disco and dance music of the 80’s and 90’s, wavering between mythical synth sounds and powerful bass lines.

At the border between italo disco and indie dance, Distorded Wheel is characterized by a recurring and dynamic rhythm. Its sharp synths and its circular melody recalls the motricity of a groove born from multiple frenetic percussions.

Low Tide is the kind of creature who can never let you go, he sits inside your tears box and scratches up and down to synchronize your heavy breath, a mantra of broken hearts and empty eyes.

Abramov, one half of Berlin-based duo Rudolf Abramov, a one man band who applies his orchestral experiences working as a theatre composer with years spent playing in live bands. Also adding his own contemporary influences and studio techniques into the mix, the result is a heady, hypnotic mix of soundscape, ambient, trip hop and electronica.
