DJ Icey developed his passion for the beat by his steady diet of Miami Bass, 90s Hip Hop, Freestyle and Acid House back in the day. On the strength of his late 90s singles and album output, championed by DJs the world over. Icey burst onto the global scene with his award-winning Essential Mix compilation released on FFRR in 2000. This Breakbeat legend's dedication to DJ'ing and Producing has earned him high acclaim from music fans to industry professionals.
Icey’s trademark sound of bass and beats has sound tracked dance floors worldwide. His indie label Zone Records is a top player in the worldwide Booty Bass / Breaks scene. Icey’s passion for the music is undeniable and on display in his constant touring from major festivals to intimate club spaces, where his goal is to deliver an butt shaking good time to the people on the dance floor.

On U Sound was formed in the early-1980s.Initially Creation Rebel, Prince Far I, Bim Sherman, LondOn Underground and The Mothmen formed the ‘crew’ responsible for the first records.Having worked doing live shows for a long period, it was decided to change the emphasis to making records.This decision was due to the difficulty of making a success of any one group.It was logical, in order to make any money at all, to take members of various groups and create ‘new’ ones.This resulted in many recordings ranging from the New Age Steppers to African Head Charge, from Singer &amp; Players to Barmy Army, Mark Stewart &amp; Maffia, Akabu and Dr. Pablo &amp; Dub Syndicate to name a few.

These deranged records are not exactly commercial but would be if enough people got the opportunity to hear them.Anyway, never mind.Those who have heard and continued to buy or tape On U Sound records have seldom been disappointed.

Quite simply, we live in a music culture obsessed with mixes, mixtapes, and any playlist iTunes is quick to provide us. In this day and age, putting together just the right mix is a drop and drag away; what was once a labor of love has been reduced to a series of 1s and 0s. Nowhere is the decline more evident than in the electronic genre. At the risk of sounding like an old man, anyone with a laptop can plug in, pull together disparate tracks, and play Girl Talk for awhile. The labor and love that once went into such sets has all but dissipated on countless “electronica” pages found on Soundcloud and Bandcamp. Working hard for a paycheck has been replaced by “get rich quick schemes.” This guy doesn't believe in getting rich quick.
