Based in Tel Aviv, Omri Smadar’s life is all about composing and connecting, playing and performing, studying and story-telling. From deep history and complex theory to the dark art of dot joining, the academically trained composer and pianist is neck deep in all aspects of the culture and artform. He worked with Correspondant, Tel Aviv’s Blue Shadow and collaborated with well-known musicians such as Siam and Fortis, and to extensive remixes, edits and remoulds of influential Israeli music, such as debut album ‘Collage’ [Nana Disc 2020]

Phase of Motion EP surrounds the idea of fusing organic-traditional human singing and playing with the electronic music dancefloor attitude. Omri’s work is known for interweaving organic, synthetic and analog. This EP is a perfect example, with its heady vocals and chants going hand in hand with percussion and machine sounds.

If the man to whom we owe remixes for Lana del Rey, L’Imperatrice or even Booba, chose to put his hands on Omri Smadar’s music, it means you’re only starting to hear of the Prince of Tel-Aviv!
As usual, Yuksek turns everything he touches into gold. He delivers here a chiaroscuro version of the Adama Track where the voices of the israeli-ethiopian children choir from “Sheba Band” meet psychedelic percussions, deep and round bass, acid flourishes and piano disco’s melodies irresistibly dancing.

Omri places great importance on the common experience the sharing of music creates. That’s why he produced “Phase of Motion” with some of his close friends: Nenor, Roy Shpilman, Shlomo Gronich and Yogev Haruvi.

Adama (written with Shlomo Gronich and produced with Roy Shpilman) samples the "Sheba Band" - an Israeli-Ethiopian children choir from the early 90's.

Multi Culti is honoured to reissue this 1996 classic by Ghanian highlife legend Gyedu Blay Ambolley, adding amazing remixes by Red Axes and Johnny Aux, as well as an in-house edit by Dreems & Thomas Von Party.

A major force in Afro-funk since the early 1970s, Gyedu Blay Ambolley is considered the godfather of hiplife, transforming the highlife genre by adding elements of hip-hop, funk and jazz. The opportunity to reissue the amazing and influential “Simi Rapp” is one of the clear high points of the label’s trajectory thus far. 

The reissue package is bolstered by an ecstatic rework by Israeli gurus Red Axes, an early-morning anthem from master remixer Johnny Aux, and a laid-back house edit from Multi Culti Executive Shamans Dreems and Thomas Von Party.

Fauna Rêve welcomes Rina, Benji and the Megaphonim duo, 4 producers/Dj’s From Tel Aviv that are constantly expanding the boundaries of electronica by creating unique and modern interpretations of dance music.

“Ani Cham” is a sweaty summer jam made with old Roland and Casio synths that talks about going back to night life. “I'm hot, I'm humid, I'm here. Dancing till the break of dawn” recites a voice while ready for a wild night in the city.

On the remix area, fellow citizen and collaborator Middle Sky Boom delivers a celular multi-dimensional laid back eclectic psychedelic take on the track, while Omri Smadar takes the club duties shooting the song straight to peak-time dancefloor levels.

Exclusive: Omri Smadar  - Dub Shell Dmaot (feat. Tractor's Revenge)

After his Fragile EP on Correspondant earlier this year Tel Aviv-based artist Omri Smadar is back with a five tracker on Blue Shadow. With En Safak the artist dives deep into his upbringing, explores and re-experiences that time (again) as he delivers those for him typically psychadelic dancefloor takes with reference to artists and music from his childhood days. Dub Shell Dmaot goes back to Tractor's Revenge's track Game Of Tears, which was first released back in 1990. The Dub Shell approach though omits the vocals though and fnearly ocuses on the dark and disco-ish vibe  only turning the track into a truly club-esque experience as the listener is picked up by those echoing robotic vocal snippets creating a surreal world in one's mind, you can only endure when feeling the sweat dripping from the ceiling in an underground club.

Omri Smadar's EP En Safak will be released on Blue Shadow on July 17th, 2020.
