This month Pineta radio show celebrates the cosmic, dreamy and emotive atmospheres of the dance-floor. Inspired by sunrise sets, mediterranean and balearic sounds Marco Ohboy together with Mike Riviera released his first EP "Azul" on Shades Of Sound Recordings and the first hour of the show covered by Marco is dedicated to the music that inspired the production of the record.  

The second hour of Pineta show hosts a mix by Joe Morris, dj, producer and Shades Of Sound label head. Joe Morris has been involved in the underground music scene for over twenty years playing around the world from smoke filled basements to festival stages; his productions craft perfectly diverse atmospheres from chill out scenarios to dreamy high dance floor energies. You are welcome to wear your sunglasses while listening to the show and ask yourself Is It Balearic?

Marsha Stern, the gift that keeps on giving <3 another generous offering from her sacred Roy Thode vault of recordings from a very golden age of dance floor culture. It’s a tremendous honour to be able to house this recording on our Soundcloud page, an untouched time capsule from almost half a century ago, allowing us the luxury of re-living that moment in that room with Roy Thode holding court behind the booth, providing the soundtrack to what would have been a wonderful night in a very special place. 1980, no smart phones, no discogs, no social media, CDJS or sync/loop buttons, the profession of DJing was still in its early beginnings of being defined and Roy’s dedication to the craft certainly helped define it. 
In a time where it’s not always so easy to feel proud of being “a DJ”, it’s inspiring to look back at the origins of dance floor culture, one of them being extremely dedicated, self-educated and oppressed homosexuals in New York who took it upon themselves to explore the aesthetics of music on the dance floor to extreme levels. This recording should give you a glimpse into what that might have sounded like. Please take a moment to listen carefully and allow yourself to understand the genius of Roy Thode’s craft as a DJ. We hope it inspires you as much as it inspired us. On this day, Roy would have become 76 years of age, long live his memory, thank you for the music and inspiring dedication to the craft. Happy Birthday Roy!

As we enter July we are over the moon to have Mr Logan Fisher providing this months mix on The Red Telephones Soundcloud ☎️♥️.
Party starter, scene setter and pioneering DJ. Logan has been playing at and curating club nights for over 2 decades.
From the iconic Plastic People in London hosting legends of the progressive house sound (Darren Emerson, Paul Daley, Billy Nasty, Andrew Weatherall) he became one of the east London pioneers creating some of the first parties in the then overlooked part of London better known as Shoreditch.
His latest venture, along with partner in crime Dave Gadsden, the absolutely bonkers covert warehouse parties “Tryouts For The Human Race” has set tongues wagging and already reached cult status, selling out within minutes every release.
Logan will be jointing us in Margate for The Red Telephone at The Margate Arts club July 19, so if you've been to one of our nights before, you'll know what to expect! If you haven't had the chance to see Logan yet, it's well worth the trip. See you soon !!

Last Sunday, Eternal Love joined me for a special Free Association on Soho Radio.  Straight off the back of a big party weekend for us all, we kept the club-energy going with a b3b all the way through the show.

Free Association #38 w/ Sam Don & Eternal Love - July 2025

Andrew Weatherall's first official posthumous mix. The only b2b DJ Harvey ever agreed to. Six hours at Trouw. This one's special.

When mulling which direction to go in for RA's 1000th mix celebrations, many options came to mind. Some shadowy character 2-stepping around the fringe of our collective consciousness? An impossible-level IDM icon?

All tempting. But, ultimately, we are a DJ-forward publication and this is a DJ mix series. It felt truer to the history of the RA Podcast to release deep vault material from a time when the world of niche records felt different, tighter, more discrete.

The fourth-longest mix in the series' history is an unrepeatable marathon set recorded in 2012 at a superclub that no longer exists. 2012, incidentally, is farther away from 2025 than 2012 was from 2000... if we have to clock it, so do you.

It's the coming together of one British icon who passed away in 2020, and another whose time on the road has scaled back considerably as of late. DJ Harvey agreed to exactly one b2b set in his life: this one, with Andrew Weatherall.

The night took place at Trouw, an Amsterdam club already considered legendary before it shuttered its doors in the opening hours of 2015, as part of an RA series anchored around start-to-close combinations. Harvey was at the peak of an irresistible career second act, which dovetailed with a disco revival that dominated clubs for years. Weatherall, with infinite brownie points stockpiled from the '90s, remained everyone's favourite debonair psychonaut. 

What follows is 385 scintillating minutes of arpeggiated chug and slow-cresting climaxes: a moment when the resting heart rate of dance floors plunged lower than any comparable point in the 21st century. A masterclass, entirely self-contained in audio form.

If you've got time to spare, a fun side game is sussing out who plays what. A disco-dub cover of Echo & the Bunnymen? Smart money's on Weatherall. Exuberant EQ'ing of The Isley Brothers? Gotta be Harvey. As for the low 'n slow, lightly spangled house that was all the rage in the early 2010s (think Maxxi Soundsystem, Disco Bloodbath, Rub & Tug, C.O.M.B.I. and Full Pupp), it's anyone's guess. 127 BPM feels practically like an F1 car.

When we kicked off our RA.1000 campaign, we outlined a few goals: tick off a handful of long-awaited dream guests, honour architects who shaped the world around us and deliver recordings you truly can't hear anywhere else. Full send.

DJing and the mythmaking around it has undergone a quantum leap since 2012, let alone 2006, 1996 or 1989. For those of us who were kicking around in the former, there's a creeping melancholy that our prime is fast becoming a matter of historical record. The killing moon really did come too soon. 

Where will electronic music, DJ sets or any of this be in 2044? Hard to say. Best not to overthink that one. Instead, we want to say thanks to all contributors on the series so far. 'Bumblebeez' producer and frontman Christopher Colonna - Australia’s answer to Pablo Picasso - steps out to the world with an extended player of pure, unadulterated sonic imagination that perfectly represents the ethos of Multi Culti's vibe. 
 
Largely written and produced in the backwoods of Hackney in 2014 and refined at the ‘BBZ HQ Braidwood 2622,’ the songs take cues from all over the place: classical composers, trips to South Africa, the electricity of the Diwali festival, peace of mind, French women recalling their sexual nightmares, yearning for the Outback & Global roaming. Layers of tropical sounds, a collection of myriad samples & bedroom beats all at play together in an alternate reality. These uncut diamonds were previously unreleased, but an early version of Ghana was included on Multi Culti Japan, which got support from Roman Flügel, Erol Alkan and Boris Dlugosch, among others. Exoticaspeakerjam was also exclusively featured on Tiga’s BBC Radio1 mix.

It's useless to categorize, and difficult to describe, but what matters most is that the listen is warm and rewarding. It's dense with ideas, but the whole thing is wrapped up in a light-hearted charm that feels extra-precious today.
