We were first spellbound by Kalina when she played a stunning set at Montsomnia Festival in this past summer. Today we're particularly happy to welcome this thrilling narrative of hers, taking us through vast soundscapes, diverse textures and an array of playful frequencies. An enticing adventure straight from the swiss sandstone city that makes us lose all sense of space and time.

Escaping reality – wouldn’t it be nice sometimes?

Millions of people are longing for it on a daily basis and they become more by the minute.
So how about reshaping instead of escaping? There are many fine uses for creativity but it’s those that color your days, make you move, heal your trauma, that make this world a better place. In a way reshaping is also escaping. Escaping into something new.

Recycling, upcycling, downsizing. 

In another way reshaping is conserving. Building a better now with what is around you. Forming a future out of the past. Not always expanding – growing nonetheless. 
What is it that you truly need? Maybe you have it already. Maybe it was here all along. 

Art will prevail. 

Only time may tell something different. But in the end, who cares?
Heronymuz obviously does. So you can too. We will as well.
After all, caring is the thing that keeps us alive.

This mix is dedicated to all the gorgeous people, open minded musicians and instrument makers, who overwhelmed me with Atai and were willed to teach me something about Gnawa. Not to mention the faboulous record stores in Casablanca, Rabat, Ouazazarte, Marrakesh and those hidden sellers, who suddenly appeared, when i lost my bearings in the Souq.

The mix contains old vinyls and cassettes, which are rounded up with contemporary digital releases and reissues. Pitched down darbouka tapes, traditional orchestra, modern gnawa, fusion, rock, miserable conditioned pop cassettes and some algerian raï. Featuring labels like boussiphone, koutobiaphone, disque gam, casaphone, radio martiko, nabilophone and so on…

MCT-16 - Show Kati - A Guide Across The Atlas Range

Here are two hours of Austropop in all facets from  the record collection of @Stirnband. In his own words: "Vinyl only with one exception: The second track in the intro is the title track of the 1982 debut film Niki Lists "Malaria" aka "Café Malaria", which I happen to see at the beginning of the 90s in Karlsruhe's Schauburg in the presence of the director. Colourful cocktails of various subcultures of the New Wave time get their Schmäh here and arouse my interest for the first time in the peculiarity of the Austrian New Wave in film and music (but it takes until the re-release in 2007 on DVD until I will see the film again). It's also this Schmäh that holds together the eclectic genre term "Austropop" consisting of New Wave, Space Rock, Liedermacher, Poprap, Wiener Blutrausch, Discofunk, Parody and Grotesque.
