Schwabe [TAPAN, Klub 20/44]

Member of the famous TAPAN, Schwabe is one of the most experienced DJs on the Belgrade scene and one of the most deserving people who have contributed to the quality of the program and the overall success of the club 20/44. This time he was a guest at the Tunnel club and for CMOK Cast part of his mystical-magical DJ set.

I was first turned on to Goa music in the early 90s, young and innocent, discovering the communal state of trance for the first time. Back then I wasn’t interested in its roots or it’s origins and preferred to get lost in music not thinking of the days to come or those gone by.
When it all became formulaic and a genre as such, things started to lose their magic and I begun to explore sounds of the past, turning my nose up at something which for me had lived it’s course…
I dived into a whole new sonic horizon, old relics which sounded new to me and more interesting than a lot of contemporary releases. Unconsciously, I was drawing a map which covered many seminal dancefloors worldwide. I would later find out that the distance between most of these tracks had no boundaries as they could just as well have been played in Chicago, Manchester, Gent, Ibiza, Baia Degli Angeli, or Goa…
This mix can be listened to like a GPS directing you towards those places, somewhere in the mid 80s, with Goa as the meeting point and final destination. Funnily enough it is also very close to the first mixes that helped put my name on the map almost 20 years ago…

The Slow Brown Fox @ ZMAR Festival 2023 live dj cut

It was a joy to play the warm up set at Optimo's New Year's Day party in The Berkeley Suite earlier this month. The night started at 8pm (until 4am...so a long night) and the room took a while to get busy so I felt it was completely acceptable to veer into the stranger atmospheric territories of my record collection. By half an hour or so in, people had started arriving and dancing so things pick up around halfway through but I still keep the tempo down for a leisurely build. Artists featured include: Beige, Mauoq, Peter Power, C.P.I., Renaldo & The Loaf, Alek Lee, James Holden & Maalem Houssam Guinia, Froid Dub, Olta Karawane, Killing Joke, Mugwump, Girls Chat Room, CatCat, Alterleo, Lust Pattern, Ballistic Mystic, La Bottine Souriante & Legion Of Green Men, Siouxsie & The Banshees, Aiku. Dreems explores the sounds that resonate with Diamond Bay. The show, much like his forthcoming album, is languid journey through ambient dimensions and intimate sonic reflections.

On the '1st Wave' we hear a few old favourites and a couple of new sonic paintings that hang on the metaphorical wall of the 'bay'. You might even hear some words in a distant tongue ~ known to a few as Oz-tralian.
