What Is This Song About?
Growing up on Long Island, "The City" is considered the end-all-be-all of damn near everything. There is no higher plain of "cool" than to hang out and perform in NYC. Even after I had gone away to college in Boston, I moved back to the vicinity of the Big Apple the first chance I got. I spent a lot of time in the clubs in The Village and immersed myself in the culture of the diverse music scene. I gravitated toward the hybrid sounds of bourgeoning bands like a young Soul Coughing​  to bands you've never heard of like Skizm, which brilliantly blended two bass players, trumpet, percussion, drums and an female vocalist that had the witchy ability to employ mass hypnosis on a whim. Urban sounds, poetry, big big beats, jazz inflections - this epitomized NYC for me at the time and, in my eyes, there was no place cooler on Earth. 

Soon after, I moved back to Boston to open an office for the music magazine I owned and ended up placing roots down in New England. My myopic world view began to widen. In the last two years I've been fortunate enough to do more traveling than I ever have in my life, searching for the muse that was lost to commerce. I heard new sounds and visited the birthplace of classic ones. I think those old ghosts entered my soul there, smiling, leering and screaming at the world through much of the music on this album.

"Long Way From New York City" was written in the South Texas desert as I watched my first desert sunset, miles from anything you would consider "civilized". It occurred to me how very far I had travelled since my formative years hanging out on Bleeker St. and just how vast and diverse the world actually is. If you've ever worn glasses, recall the very first time you put them on and looked up. Suddenly there was nuance and detail you just didn't have the capacity to see seconds earlier. You knew objects were there, but now you actually SAW them with clarity. The lyrics began to write themselves.

Boston based Recording Artist, Producer and Film Composer Munk Duane has a style deeply rooted in late 60s and early 70s Soul and Pop, with unapologetic nods to legends such as Curtis Mayfield, Marvin Gaye, Prince and Stevie Wonder, crafting a sonic atmosphere that is traditional in inception and modern in execution. Channeling spirits of the past and filtering them through a 21st century aesthetic, Munk manifests an evolution by daring to experiment in hybrids. 

Munk's music has been licensed to hundreds of television and film productions such as Hulu's Pam & Tommy, The 70th Annual Tony Awards, The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, Hawaii Five-O, 60 Minutes, NCIS and Blue Bloods, to The Sopranos, the Super Bowl Half-Time Show and NCAA March Madness. He composed the original score for the 2015 Indie Thriller "The House Across The Street" starring Eric Roberts and owns Bad Stella Studios, just outside of Boston. Munk Duane endorses Reverend Guitars and became an official Reverend Artist in April 2016.

Recently, Munk has been busy composing for companies like Extreme Music, the production music arm of Sony Music Publishing. Extreme Music creates and licenses music for use in television, film, advertising, and online media.

"Seeing my name next to Hollywood composing legends on the Extreme platform is completely surreal.", Munk explains. Extreme Music is powered by A-List talent including Quincy Jones, Hans Zimmer, Snoop Dogg, deadmau5, Ice-T, Sir George Martin, Atticus Ross, Tina Guo, Ramin Djawadi, Harry Gregson-Williams, Michael Giacchino, Timbaland, James S. Levine, Xzibit, and Junkie XL.

Additionally, the smart sleep device company Hatch contracted Duane to create an entire custom channel for their product. Munk recorded over 10 hours of exclusive original content, that follows specific scientific methodology to help users wind down, sleep, and wake up feeling refreshed. Hatch is the second company Munk has worked with to help restless souls reach an optimal sleep state. His previous engagement composing for the Bose Sleepbud II helped inform compositional and sound design choices, specially designed for the task.

Munk Duane has appeared in major press including a feature in Billboard Magazine, as well as The Hollywood Reporter and The Boston Globe. He has been a guest lecturer for the Professional Development Seminar at his alma mater Berklee College of Music.
