I'm probably in the middle of a bad wave in real life. I guess it's called a slump. I hope everyone is doing well, though I know we all go through hard times and bad times periodically. Thanks for reading. Also, I'm glad you're interested in my music.

Lately, the 8-string guitar has become an integral part of my songs. I don't know how long I can keep this style going, but I try to do interesting things in my songs whenever possible. Strumming the bass strings in the clean tones is one example, but I don't actually use the bass guitar in that part. In other parts I play the bass guitar myself, of course.

Queen of My Heart (with Boone Walker)

Hank Rusch goes for the throat with this stripped down raucous rocker about a fugitive from injustice called The Innocent.  Hank creates a raw precision with his spare but loud use of only drums, bass, guitar. Sweet but grinding like frosting on a cake with a file inside Hank give us just desserts with his slide guitar work. Hank's voice brings an authentic dimension to the song as he recounts the first person story of a man wrongly convicted, escaped, on the run.  Hank's screaming falsetto in tandem with his high slide guitar ends the song like a war cry... as if to say, Today is a good day to die, but I will fight for one more.

On my way to Leavenworth
the train it left the tracks
Everybody broke their backs

on a back to back 30 stretch

til' we found a old garage
We put on mechanics uniforms
and hot wired the owner's Dodge

We put some miles between Joliet
We drove without the lights
I wished the darkness would never end

They caught my partner and they made the Dodge
he went down in a blaze of bullets
I watched it all from the café
as I stuffed my hungry gullet

I slipped out of town on a mail truck
your letters might be a little late
'cause they shot it full of lead
I crawled into a sewer grate

I met a woman in St. Paul
She liked me and she took me in
She believed I was innocent

But I saw her sittin' in a G man's car
I could tell from the government plates
They had the goods on her for somethin' else

«Distant Call is an album created remotely, cooked about 2 years ago by drum recordings by João Svayam (three drum tracks) and the additions of various instruments by Leonel Cardoso (who recycled these three drum tracks to create these themes that we have here today, in addition to other b sides). By that time both were collaborating on a improvisation band called Salamandra, connected to our sister label Partícula Records.
Distant Call is just like a time travel: between pure science fiction and impossible-to-deny facts born from any conspiracy theory.»
